Richard Montrose Obituary

Montrose, Richard W. "Dick"
died peacefully on Saturday March 19, 2011. Dick, a much loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Born in Los Angeles, California to Frederick Wallace Montrose and Helen Allyn Montrose (Porter), Dick grew up in the Pomona and Los Angeles, California area, later attending University High School. He joined the United States Army in 1948, serving in Japan and Korea. Dick married Tonia Marie Cravello in 1951, and the couple moved with their young family to Cypress, California in 1962, where they remained until they retired to Arizona in 1985. Dick's first priority was always his family, and many evenings and weekends found him at a ball field, a school event, or camping with the family. Dick was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, serving many years as a Cub Master, Scout Master, Merit Badge Counselor, and other positions. After retirement, Dick enjoyed his role as Santa Claus for many years. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Tonia, of Chandler; his sons Randy (Yvonne) of Perris, CA and Robert of Chandler; his daughter Linda Bridwell (Scott) of Chandler; his grandchildren Stephanie, Keri, Brandon, Scott, Renee, Robyn, and Jeremy; his great-grandchildren Zander, Mary, Johanna, Henry, Emily, Aislyn, Holland, Benjamin, and Allie; and his sister Beverly (Packard) of Phoenix. A family memorial service was held in Chandler on March 26, 2011. The family would like to thank all of our friends for their love, prayers, and many acts of service. Many thanks also for the kindly service provided by the Alzheimer's Association, Americare Hospice & Palliative Care, and Carestone of Tempe. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Americare Hospice & Palliative Care.
