Leonard Figelman Obituary
Dr. Leonard J. Figelman, 72, of Surprise, Arizona passed away March 27, 2011. Born in Brooklyn, New York on August 2, 1938, he married Heather B. Smith in 1960. A graduate of the University of Maryland and University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Figelman was an orthopedic surgeon in New York for over 30 years. He was Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, New York. He was founder and president of Sports Medicine Resource. In 2000, he retired to Surprise where he enjoyed playing playing golf, world travel and volunteer work for Sun City Grand and the Pappas School. He served on the Board of Directors of Beth Emeth Congregation and was treasurer of the Men's Club there for many years. Dr. Figelman leaves behind Heather, his beloved wife of 50 years. He was a devoted father to Edward (Claudia) Figelman, Donna (Edward) Steinman, Debra (Jace) McKeighan and Dian (Stuart) Triester. He loved his 12 grandchildren: Ricky and Michael Figelman; Bobby, Erik, Amy and Julia Steinman; Ben, Rachel and Sarah McKeighan; Sam, Jake and Grant Triester. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30th at 10:00 am in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 24210 N. 68th St. in Phoenix, Arizona (www.mtsinaicemetery.com). In lieu of flowers, contributions in the name of Leonard J. Figelman, M.D. may be made to Beth Emeth Congregation, 13702 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, AZ 85375, or to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

I was sad to hear of Dr. Figelman´s passing. He was a great caring doctor who helped a lot of people including myself. He operated on me 3 times, saved my law enforcement career with his skill. He and his family are in our prayers. Tom Flynn
