Dorothy Armour Obituary

Armour, Dorothy "Dottie" Marie
Dottie Armour, 64, left us much too soon on March 26, 2011, ending her 6 year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Dottie will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and heart of gold. She was born and raised in Cochranton, PA, spending most of her adult life in Meadville, PA before relocating to Arizona in 1988. In 1964, Dottie was selected to be the community ambassador to Mexico. She served as President of the Jr. Women's Club in Meadville and the TV Host on the "Dottie Armour Show" at a local cable cast system for several years. In 1981, she entered the healthcare service industry at Wesbury Adult Community as activity director and spokesperson, promoting Wesbury in the surrounding area. Upon moving to Arizona, Dottie took a position with Christian Care/Fellowship Square Compa nies. Serving as the Residential Administrator for 17 years at Fellowship Square Retirement Community in Phoenix, AZ, she made significant contributions to the early development of the campus enhancing the continuum of care. Dottie was instrumental in the addition of assisted living services that continues to positively impact the lives of Arizona seniors. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, water aerobics, and watching sports with her husband. She also enjoyed helping people and loved children, especially her 2 athletic grandsons. Dottie will be dearly missed. Her energy, friendship and loving spirit brought joy to everyone she met. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Lloyd Armour, daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Chuck Blazek and two grandsons, Justin and Colin. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Heltzel of Saegertown, PA and Patricia Stright of Boca Raton, FL, brother-in-law Leon Armour and his wife Gerry of Sun Lakes, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. The family would like to especially thank Dottie's caregivers, Mary Gonzales, Mary Taylor and Cindy Shoupe. In addition, we are grateful for all the help and kindness provided by Hospice of the Valley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at 2:00pm at Christian Care/Fellowship Square Center, 2002 W. Sunnyside Dr. Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dottie's name to: Hospice of the Valley at 9435 W. Peoria Ave, Peoria, AZ 85345, Sun Health Research Institute (for Alzheimer's research) at 10515 W. Lloyd, Julie and family, Today is a particularly hard day to try to express some words of comfort for your loss. Our friendship goes back a long way and our memories of Dottie and you are special. Always looked forward to your return visits to PA and the fun times we shared.
