Mona Kerrin Obituary

Kerrin, Mona J.
Mona J. Kerrin died tragically at the early age of 60 in an automobile crash outside of Payson Arizona on February 18, 2011. Mo, as she was known to her many friends in Arizona, was born on August 2, 1950 in Jamestown, North Dakota and at the age of 2 years moved with her family to Marysville California. She graduated from Marysville High School and later became a licensed Cosmetologist. After retirement in 2001, Mo and her husband, Richard, moved to Goodyear Arizona and very quickly became active in the PebbleCreek community. As a vital member of the community, she served as a Kare Bears Coordinator and driver in the Kare Bears transportation program assisting others needing help. Mo was also involved as a leader with the Good Time Gals, Tri T's, Red Hat Pack with Hat'titude Society, PebbleCreek Unit 27 Representative and volunteered as a PebbleCreek Usher. She was also energetically involved with the PebbleCreek Bowling League, Wine Club, Bocce League, Tri-City Bowling League, Pickle Ball and numerous PebbleCreek card groups. In her spare time Mo was always available to give rides to PebbleCreek residents to and from the Phoenix airport. Mo was a former member of the PebbleCreek Women's Softball League, Hiking Club and Ladies Social Club. She also hosted annually, a dinner in her home for all the participants in the Senior Olympics. Mo was a bright shining star at every event she attended and was always willing to help with any activities these organizations took on. Mo was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Lee & LaJune King, and one brother, Sid King. She is survived by her fiancé and life mate Mike Hanzlick, brother Jim King, step-daughter Kristi Azar, nieces Christina King, Jennifer King, Sarah King and Jessica King, nephew Zak King and numerous cousins and very close friends. Helen Keller said "the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." Mo was the best example of this truism. She embraced everyone she ever met directly from her heart. As a result she lived each day to the full extent possible and truly enjoyed life. We will miss you Mo. A celebration of Mo's life will be held on April 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Eagle's Nest Ballroom, 3645 Clubhouse Dr., Goodyear, AZ. Memorials may be sent to the Kare Bears, c/o Laura Measles, 15383 W. Cheery Lynn Rd., Goodyear, AZ 85395 or to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Mo was so special to me.
Mo and I had not seen each other for many, many years until one winter Dick and I went to Sacamento to visit and to meet Richard. From that time on we were the best of friends/cousins. She was the sister I never had. When they moved to AZ she and Richard came to visit for 3 weeks and we enjoyed every day. Every summer after Richard's death she would come and spend 2 or 3 weeks with Dick and I, and our families. Our grandkids loved her!! Dick and I would go to AZ every winter and our daughter would come from Seattle too! When she met and fell in love with Mike she was so happy! It was a fairy tale that should have ended happily ever after. But it wasn't in God's plan for her. We know she is in a better place, but it doesn't help us to miss her any less. Our whole family loved her and we will miss her so much!!

Mo was a beautiful, wonderful, loving, and caring person. She loved her family. Even with her busy schedule she took time for her family and was especially kind to Granny - she would and did everything for her. Not only was she always smiling and laughing - you could see the joy in her eyes. We will always remember and love you.

Mo, you were way to young to leave this world. You were always such a joy to have around. We loved you as neighbor, a friend, a confidant. We will always remember you for the very special person that you were. Our hearts ache terribly and we will never forget you. Love you always,

Mona worked for our mom, Alaine Day, for thirteen years in Sacramento. My mom as well as my dad just loved her. She was so funny and always so much fun to be around. I know that she is what my mom missed most when she sold her salons. She will be forever in our hearts. Kim Jorgenson, Carmichael, CA

Mona or Aunt Mona as I called her, was more than just a neighbor to me growing up. She was my Godmother, friend, and someone I greatly admired. If I could live my life just as fully as she did, I will live with no regrets. I still cannot believe that she is gone. I am so thankful for the memories she gave me growing up and into adulthood. They will be everlasting. I miss you Mona.

It is with heavy heart that we have to express our affection for this great lady (our next door neighbor) in such a sad way.
Mo was the first PebbleCreek person we could call our friend. She was so happy to welcome us here. Mo's generosity and desire to be helpful in any way she could was remarkable. We will sorely miss her greetings and smile, but especially her presence as such a good human being.
