Sandra Sams Obituary

Sams, Sandra M.
Sandra Mae Hubenthal Sams, 71 of Surprise, passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 28, 2011 at her home of natural causes. Sandy was born on June 9, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harry and Bernice Hubenthal who both preceded her in death. She married Gary Sams on May 27, 1961 and they spent nearly 50 wonderful years together. Sandy was a 1957 graduate of Taft High School, Chicago, IL and earned her Bachelor's Degree in education from Northwestern University, Chicago, IL in 1961. She was an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She began her working life as an elementary school teacher in Chicago and eventually retired in 1999 as an administrative clerk for Pepsi-Cola Co. in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout her life, and especially in her retirement she was an avid seamstress and quilter and loved playing cards and mah jong. Her joy was spending time with her grandson. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Sams, her daughter and son-in-law Brooke and Jim Gaunt, and her grandson, Jason Gaunt. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in law Jim and Pat Hubenthal, of Marietta, GA, and two nieces, Tracy Hubenthal Morrell and Kristin Hubenthal Jackson, both of GA. She is predeceased by her parents and her son, Bradley Alan Sams. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 W. Camino del Sol, Sun City West, Arizona 85375. Memorial donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

I played Canasta at Sun City Grand with Sandy and always enjoyed her humor. We will miss her very much. So sorry to hear of her passing so suddenly.
