Hunter Holben Obituary

Holben, Hunter Keith
Hunter Keith Holben, 13, of Scottsdale, AZ born April 1, 1997 entered into the Kingdom of God on Tuesday March 29, 2011. Hunter is survived by his parents Keith Holben and Nancy Bates, brothers Thomas and Lucas, stepfather Kenneth Bates, stepbrothers Kiernan, Streator and Race, stepsister Ashton, grandparents Jeffrey and Ann Jorgenson, Marston and Marian Holben and Edice (DC) and Bob Harkey and great grandmother Helen Jorgenson. He is also survived by many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. Our Hunter will be dearly missed by the many friends he made while with us for this short time, including players and coaches from his many years playing baseball at Mountain View Little League, competitive tackle football, and basketball, to name just a few of this young talented athletes sporting pursuits. As an accomplished pianist, he brought so much pride to his parents and was a fine example to his younger brothers. Hunter attended Cheyenne Traditional School in Scottsdale for his entire grade school years and leaves behind a legacy of gentleness and loyalty that his school friends, teachers and faculty will cherish for a life time. Through his sporting activities and brother's schools, Hunter nurtured friendships far beyond his own school including Rancho Solano-Greenway and Brophy College Preparatory where he was recently accepted into the incoming freshman class of 2015 with honors. As a member of Boys Team Charity, Hunter spent many weekend hours with his mother Nancy, giving back to the community to those less fortunate than himself. This summer was the summer that his father Keith was going to teach him to fly, and he had already completed a large part of his ground school requirement. To define this fine young man's accomplishments is hard enough, but as he leaves us we are comforted knowing that as a member of La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church and with a strong faith rooted deep within his soul, he is prepared for an eternal life where one day he will greet and welcome us into his arms again. We will miss you Hunter, farewell son, brother and loyal friend. A "Celebration of Hunter's Life" will take place on Monday April 4, 2011 at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church – 6300 E. Bell Rd. Scottsdale at 1:00 PM. Reception to follow at Jeffrey and Ann Jorgenson's (Grandparents) home: 5500 E. Sanna Street Paradise Valley, AZ. 85253. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Hunter's name to: The Hunter Holben Memorial Fund at La Casa de Cristo 6300 E. Bell Rd. Scottsdale, AZ. or to Brophy College Preparatory 4701 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, AZ. 85012 Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Mortuaries-Pinnacle Peak. Dear Nancy and Family,
Although it's been many years since our GPhiB days at U of A, I remember you as having a heart of gold. You were caring, accomplished, generous and kind. It sounds like your son Hunter shared those traits and was a remarkable, wonderful boy. I'm sure he bettered the lives of everyone who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Dear Nancy and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Jack and I found this little poem that he could understand and send to Lucas and your family. Your are in our thoughts.

When somebody dies, a cloud turns into
an angel, and flies up to tell God
to put another flower on a pillow.
A bird gives the message back to
the world, and sings a silent prayer
that makes the rain cry. People dis-
appear, but they never really go away.
The spirits up there put the sun to
bed, wake up grass, and spin the
earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you
can see them dancing in a cloud during
the day-time, when they're supposed
to be sleeping. They paint the rain-
bows and also the sunsets and make
waves splash and tug at the tide.
They toss shooting stars and listen to
wishes. And when they sing wind-
songs, they whisper to us, don't
miss me too much. The view is nice
and I'm doing just fine.

Nancy, I have known you for many years. You are a thoughtful, generous, patient and strong woman. Life is full of many unexpected things and the loss of a child is nothing any of us ever expect to experience. Nothing prepares one for this. I extend my deepest and sincerest condolences to you, Keith, Thomas and Lucas. May God keep Thomas safe and free from any pain he felt on this earth. What a wonderful life he had accomplished so far, he is truly an inspirational young man. My heart goes out to you and your entire family. God bless, Desiree

I am a stranger to you but, when I saw your precious childs photo in the paper today. I could feel an emptiness that is too familiar to me.. I too lost my only son & I felt so lost & alone. Even though people were all around me, trying to comfort me. I felt as though I fell off the planet & I couldn't get back on. I just wanted someone to understand & tell me I wasn't loosing my mind. I prayed for God to show me what to do next. I knew help would come, but, I did not know when. My family & friends were grieving him also & were absent emotionally for a long time. God sent me an angel, named Monica. We were strangers until she shared with me, the loss of her son, Ian. He was hit by a car, here in Phx. He was 11. I knew then that reaching out & giving to another was the start of my journey toward healing. One moment at a time turned into days. We may never speak but, maybe some day you will read my words & find a tiny bit of comfort. My heart goes out to you & Hunters friends & family. My name is Mickey. God bless you.

There is nothing I can say that could ease the pain the family is experiencing. Nancy - I don't know you well, but I know you and your family from a distance from working on various projects with the Cheyenne PTO. I know Hunter is at home with Our Lord, and is watching over all of you. I pray for the entire family to find comfort, support and the love of each other. God Bless Hunter and his family.
