Arutt, Charlotte P.
After a valiant fight against Alzheimer's disease, Charlotte P Arutt died on March 26, 2011 in Scottsdale Arizona, surrounded by her family. She was born in New York City on May 22, 1923 to Charles C Parmet and Martha Baltch. She was educated in the schools of New York City, and went on to study at the New York University School of Law, where she was editor of the Law Review. At the time when women were not welcomed as members for the male dominated General Bar, she became an activist and pioneer for women's rights. Ultimately, she became President of the Nassau County New York Women's Bar, and contributing editor of the Commercial Law League Journal.
There was a time when the United States Power Squadron, a boating educational organization, did not permit women members. She was successful in the Courts of the State of New York against them. After that the U. S. Power Squadron opened its membership to women. She joined the Power Squadron in Marathon, Florida, and taught navigation there. After retirement, she worked for unrepresented juveniles in Monroe County, Florida, in its Guardian Ad Litem program. She is survived by her law partner and husband of 67 years, Samuel Arutt, son Paul F. Arutt, daughter-in-law Karen Stromberg, daughter Amy Arutt Fliederbaum, son-in-law, Merrill Fliederbaum, and grandsons, Charlie Arutt, Ben and Daniel Fliederbaum. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday April 26th, 20ll at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Messinger Indian School Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
