Robert Cole Obituary

Cole, Robert Lynn
Sept. 25, 1921- March 6, 2011, age 89. Born in Columbus, Indiana, to Walter and Ruth Cole. Brother Donald V., deceased. He is survived by his nephews, Russell, Glenn, and Todd, all of northern California, and Patricia Nichalson, cousin, of Columbus. Manager for M.C.I. Retired as President of D.C.I. He had traveled extensively in the U.S. as manager and sales training for Mayflower Transit, Autrey Bros., and Jostens Inc. Teacher for PACE Executive Seminars. Lynn was active and enjoyed sports tremendously, playing basketball, tennis, roque, and ping-pong. He was an avid golfer until late in life. Lynn loved to read, and was never far from a good book. He also loved music and dancing, especially jitterbug and the Big Band era. Other favorites were barbershop and the Four Freshmen. He was also co-owner of "The Umbrella" club in Columbus, where the young Freshmen appeared early in their career. He served in the US Army at the end of World War Two, and was stationed on the island of Curacao, in the southern Caribbean, where he once escorted Eleanor Roosevelt to lunch. Lynn came to Phoenix in 1969, where he lived until his passing. He died peacefully in his sleep early in March. No services are planned, but he hoped he would be remembered for his smile and his cheerfulness.
