Virginia Merrill Obituary

Merrill, Virginia
passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 92, March 31, 2011 at 7:10 in the evening. She is survived by 3 sons; Philip, Stephen and Walter, 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Virginia was born in Liberty, Arizona and lived her entire life in Arizona. We have lost an angel mother, devoted wife and beautiful care giving woman who had only friends and loved ones on this earth. She was born on April 13, 1918. She married her sweetheart of 70 years, Bruce Merrill in 1942 who immediately left to serve his country in the south pacific for 5 years while she helped build airplanes in Goodyear in Rosie the Riveter style. She then supported him and was his constant companion and helpmate as he carried out an extraordinary business career. Virginia only stayed here with us for 46 days after the love of her life departed on February 13, 2011. Her entire life was one of devoted service and caring for others and she will be sorely missed. A visitation will be held on Friday April 8, 2011 at the Messinger Mortuary, 8555 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Scottsdale, AZ from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the LDS church, 38001 North Basin Road, Cave Creek, AZ on Saturday April 9, 2011 at 10am. Burial is to follow in Pima, Arizona. Arrangements have been entrusted to Messinger Mortuary.

Phil, Walt and Steven, I am sorry to hear of the passing of both your parents in such a short time. They were always such nice, gracious people and an important part of my family memories. (My father Scott was your father's brother.) I'm sorry I couldn't make it to their services but you have been in my thoughts and prayers.

I love you Grandma, I cherish the memories of your sweet smile and gentle nature. From when I was a small boy until I grew into a man you were always there with that beautiful smile and a game of gin rummy. You are the only Grandma I knew, I feel a tremendous loss and sadness. However this feeling is coupled with a warm realization that you are back with the man you've loved your whole life, and for eternity. You two are the very definition of Love. We will all miss you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Bruce and his lovely Virginia are together again, forever.

May Heavenly Father look down upon you during your time of mourning and may the joy of her memories find place in your hearts as you celebrate her life.
