Nelson, Arvin A.
Arvin Arnold Nelson 85 passed away on March 31, 2011 in Mesa, AZ. He was born on June 3, 1925 to Martin and Clara Nelson in Scotland, South Dakota. The family later moved to Yankton where Arvin attended grade and high school. Arvin joined the US Navy in 1942 and served his country until June 1946. He served on the USS Snyder. He married Phyllis Oien in 1946 and daughter Lorie was born in Yankton in 1947. They lived in Yankton until 1952 when they moved to California. Arvin worked for Chrysler Corp. in California and later transferred to Illinois and retired from Chrysler in 1980 and the family moved to Arizona. Son Mark was born in Downey, California in 1960. Arvin is survived by his wife Phyllis of 64 years, daughter Lorie (Larry), son Mark (Judy), one sister Eileen, numerous nieces and nephews, 3 grandchildren Krista (Paul) Williams, Eric (Nicci) Dillon, Dan (Rheannon) Dillon, 4 great grandchildren Spencer Williams, Damon, Havynn and Gaige Dillon. Arvin was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Clara Nelson, 1 sister and 6 brothers. Arvin was a member of the VFW and enjoyed having lunch with Chrysler co-workers in the winter months. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, April 5th at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel 7900 E. Main St. Mesa, AZ 85207
