84, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on February 28, 2011. Lyle David Sanders, Jr. passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Valley, Brighton Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 7, 2011. Born on July 29, 1926 in Springfield, Missouri to Lyle David and Mollie Sanders; the second of four children. He served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Dobbin. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and in 1960 married Gloria Frances Ashor in Scottsdale, Arizona. After being honorably discharged from the Navy following his service in the Pacific Theater in World War II, he attended college on the GI Bill. He led rich and varied life as a civil engineer, small business owner, husband, father of three children, and grandfather of two. A 50-year resident of Arizona, he retired from the Del Webb Corporation as General Manager before founding the L. David Sanders Corporation in Phoenix, Arizona. A secret high-school football star, David was known for his generous spirit, quick wit, and loving nature. He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Stoner; two brothers Ed Sanders and Robert Sanders; three children, Mary Ann Sanders, Jean Marie Szakovits, and David Sanders; two grandchildren, Daniel and Robin Szakovits; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service held on Friday, April 8, at 12 noon at Messingers Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85255. Service will be followed by a brief interment ceremony with military honors at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
