Jerry Longstrom Obituary

Longstrom, Jerry
Jerry Longstrom was born in Tracy, Minnesota on June 15, 1940 and left this world with his family by his side on April 3, 2011 after a long battle with COPD. Jerry attended grade and high school at Russell, Minnesota , graduating in 1959. He then attended Minneapolis Business School and Minneapolis Barber School, establishing his own barber business in Mound, Minnesota for 5 years. In October of 1968 Jerry and his family moved to the Phoenix area for his health. He worked at Continental Bank for 4 years, then went in to real estate sales. Jerry loved sports, coaching his sons Little League teams for several years and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Phoenix Suns. He also played bridge with friends on a regular basis. As his health failed he spent many hours working on family genealogies. Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Colleen; sons Jeff and Greg (Keli) of Dallas, Texas; 3 grandsons Michael, Joshua, and Zachary; and a brother Rick (Teri) of Becker, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Lela Longstrom and a brother, Richard. Jerry will be missed dearly but his memory will be kept alive in the hearts of family and friends. Memorial services will be held at Heritage Funeral Chapel 6830 W Thunderbird Rd., Peoria, AZ on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2:30 pm. Inurnment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Glendale, AZ.

Jerry was such a help to me & my mother (Jerry's distant cousin, Hubert Leroy Hudson's daughter). With all the information Jerry had gathered on his family, he was able to share some unknown facts about Hubert and the family.

At the time it was quite an effort to speak to me, but he was so very helpful & generous with his energy.

I feel awful that I hadn't stayed in touch. And I'm so sorry that he has passed and is with God and his angels now.

If anyone is continuing the genealogy, please keep me in the loop. Especially RE the Hudson side. I hope this website will share my contact information.

Love & blessings to you all.

Jerry Longstrom Colleen were long time friends of many. We all started out in little league, the men were the coaches, the women kept score and worked the snack bar. Those days were so good. I have not seen Jerry or Coleen in a few yrs but Jerry was a wonderful person to know. and was a true friend to my husband.

Jerry and I worked together at Continental Bank at the Paradise Valley office and then we bought a home through him a few years later. I have very fond memories of him. My husband and I send our deepest sympathy to your family.
