Ian McKee Obituary

McKee, Ian Keith
79, of Phoenix AZ passed away on March 25, 2011, after suffering a heart attack. Born December 11, 1931, McKee spent his childhood in Baltimore and in the farmlands of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Church Farm School in Exton PA, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as Staff Sergeant of the Air Force Drill Team and in the honor guard at Arlington Cemetery during the Korean War. After his discharge, he settled in New Jersey where he graduated from Rutgers University. He worked for National Starch and Chemical Company and then Bell Laboratories. In the early 70s, he moved to California to work for Hughes Aircraft Corporation. From there, McKee moved to Arizona, where he joined the leadership team at Rogers Corporation. A resident of Phoenix since 1977, McKee retired in 1996 and dedicated himself to photography and travel, most recently spending summers exploring the country with his wife in their RV. He was a leading member of the Friends of Arizona Highways for many years; a long-time member of the Heard Museum Council; a founding board member of Imageworks, a photography group; and a board member of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale in Santa Fe NM. McKee is survived by his wife Margaret Wright, two daughters, Sally McKee and Marcy McKee, and two sisters, Suzy McKee Charnas and Liza McKee. He was a passionate reader, especially on subjects relating to science or politics, and a committed Humanist. In recognition of those interests, the family suggests that contributions in his honor may be made to The Planetary Society, The American Humanist Association or another charity of the giver's choice. At his request there will be no services.
