George Crawley Obituary

Crawley, George Lawrence
George Lawrence Crawley, 86, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on April 3, 2011. George was born on July 4, 1924 in Norfolk, VA. His education was completed in Norfolk and he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1944. In 1953, George married Janette Davis and later moved to Mesa, AZ in 1954 where he worked for Luke Air Force base and later retired from William's Air Force Base. Following retirement, George volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital for 10 years. He joined Mesa Country Club in the late 1950's and had been an active member ever since. George had many fine memories of his friends and golf games there, so it was only fitting that he should have his last enjoyable day at the club on Thursday, March 30, 2011. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Mason for many years. George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janette of 57 years, in April of 2009; his father, Ernest W. Crawley, Sr.; his mother, Annie Kelly Crawley; his brother Ernest W. Crawley, Jr. and his sister Kathleen C. Butt. George is survived by his sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lois Crawley of Norfolk, VA and Miss Leah Davis of Onancock, VA, also several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2:30 PM at the Springs of East Mesa, 6220 East Broadway Road, Mesa, AZ, by Rev. Charles Crane. A private interment will be held in VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Arizona Humane Society. George will be greatly missed by many friends and family, but has happily slipped away to be with his Jan. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements.

My name is Don Ford, and I entertain at The Springs twice each month .... George has always loved to lead a singalong during the Happy Hour there. I was shocked to hear of his passing, since I had just seen him on March 25, the last time I played there . I know how it feels to lose a loved one, and I share your grief.
