Michael Grady Obituary
Michael Thomas Grady, Cdr. USN Ret., 79, loving husband and father, passed away on March 27, 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born to Thomas K. Grady and Lentella Grady (nee Eibel) on August 28, 1931 in Duluth, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally, his brother Lee T. Grady, his children Michael A. Grady, Kathleen Grady, Karen Grady and Alison Hopkins, and his grandchildren Alexander and Kelsey Hopkins and Liam, Fiona and Áine Grady. He also considered his dear friends as extended family, and they stood by his side faithfully. Michael proudly served his country as a 21-year career Naval Flight Officer, during which he received 3 Air Medals and 2 Navy Commendation Medals for service during the Vietnam conflict. He flew with the Hurricane Hunters, and was a pioneer of electronic warfare in the Navy. He also graduated from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy and had a second career as a Registered Pharmacist in Georgia, Illinois and Arizona. Michael was a member of the VFW, MOAA and FRA. Besides his family and his country, Michael's greatest passions were golf, boating and fishing, and he was always the first to step up and help someone in need. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 East Greenway Road, Phoenix, Arizona, with refreshments to follow. There will also be a military interment ceremony on May 23, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Donations in Michael's name may be made to Hospice of Arizona.
