Patricia Greer Obituary

Greer, Patricia
Patricia Greer, of Glendale passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. A native Arizonian, Patricia was born on August 6, 1934 in Tucson to the late John and Helen McLernon. She was raised in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School in 1952. In 1953, Pat married Mel Greer and they spent 53 very happy years together. She was a librarian for over 30 years working for Glendale Community College and Rio Salado. An avid gardener, Pat was a proud member of Maricopa County Master Gardeners and was co-director of the Northwest valley chapter for two years. Community service was an important part of Patricia's life. She enjoyed volunteering for the Master Gardeners, the Democratic Party, the Glendale Public Library, and the Glendale Friends of the Garden. She will be greatly missed and leaves a void in the hearts of the people that knew her. She is survived by her three children Deborah (Brian) Campbell, Melvin Edward Greer and Mack Greer, her sister Shelia Gerhart and her loved cat, Pearl. In addition to her parents and husband Pat was preceded in death by her sister Bobbie McLernon Farwell. The family will hold a private memorial for her at a later date. In keeping with Patricia's lifelong devotion to community service the family would appreciate donations made to the food bank or the University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program.

Pat and the Rio Salado library were one!! I was so fortunate to work in the library for a short time and Pat, a natural teacher, taught this computer semi-illiterate how to find my way through records!! Most of all, I loved her huymor and those stories--!!

Dear Greer Family,
I was lucky to have known your Mom for several years as a neighbor, Friend of the Garden, library volunteer, Master Gardener and most of all friend.
Pat was a wonderful woman. Down to earth, eloquent, intelligent, full of life and wisdom. She carried this spark with her though out many challenges. She never wanted sympathy, only to help. I'm thankful for my time with her and will remember her every time I'm digging in the dirt. Pat spoke of her family often and was so proud of you all. Your devotion to your Mother was a wonderful thing to see.
My thoughts are with you during this trying time.
