Amelia Valenzuela Obituary

Valenzuela, Amelia
was born to an Arizona pioneer family in 1914 in Superior, Arizona, where she attended school. She was fluent in both English and Spanish and very much enjoyed reading. In 1932 she married Rafael S. Valenzuela and settled down in Gilbert, Arizona, where they bought their home and established their business. When they came to Gilbert it was nothing but farmland as far as the eye could see. They had 11 children, which kept her constantly on the go. Amelia was an excellent cook and a gracious hostess who loved having large family gatherings at her home. Amelia was a keen observer of local and world events. She lived to see 17 presidents - from Woodrow Wilson to Barack Obama. She was a woman of great strength, humility, intelligence, and humor. On April 6, 2011, at the age of 97, Amelia joined her husband Rafael and three children in heaven: Josefina, Rafael Jr., Frances, and Frances' husband Sonny. She is survived by her remaining children: Lydia, Ernie and his wife Lucia, Ted and his wife Carmen, Peter, Linda, Rosa, Mike and his wife Sylvia, Luis, and Vera (Rafael Jr.'s wife); along with 30 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. Following the Rosary, a prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Mortuary Chapel 1562 East Baseline Road, Mesa 85204. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Queen of Heaven Mortuary.
