Paul Lippold Obituary

Lippold, Paul McKinley
88, died on Monday March 28, 2011, at Arbor Home Hospice of Mesa, Arizona. Paul was born in Detroit, Michigan, August 21, 1922, to Dr. Paul and Mrs. Ellory Lippold. Paul attended Detroit Country Day School and Lawrenceville Prep in New Jersey. He was a graduate of Princeton University in 1946 and pursued graduate studies at Harvard University. While at Princeton, Paul played lead trumpet in the university orchestra. Paul met the love of his life, Lorraine Ruth Johnson of Dearborn, at a dance at the famous Crystal Palace Ballroom in Detroit. It was love at first sight for the two. They were married on August 10, 1952 in Brainerd, Minnesota, and they resided in Mankato where Paul was employed by the Chrysler corporation. On June 26, 1953, Paul, Jr, was born, and in that same year, Paul adopted Lorraine's daughter, Sharon. For over 40 years, he was an instructor and trainer in sales and marketing for Ford Motor Company and also served as the Director of Marketing at Ford Marketing Institute in Lincolnwood, Illinois. While in this capacity, he developed a marketing course that is still being taught to Ford sales personnel. Moving often because of his position with Ford, Paul and his family lived in various places, including Dearborn and Grosse Pointe, Michigan; Mankato, Minnesota; Dallas, Texas; Lake Forest, Schaumberg, and Bloomington, Illinois. Paul achieved the status of a 33rd degree Mason, and Lorraine was an Eastern Star Matron. In 1989, Paul and Lorraine moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he continued to travel as a Ford sales instructor to such countries as Saudi Arabia, Hungary, and Turkey. Upon retirement in 1990, the Lippolds moved to Mesa, Arizona, where Paul loved gardening and riding his bicycle 12 miles a day. He was devoted to reading the Bible everyday, and he was very active serving as a deacon at Harmony Community Baptist Church. Although Paul was life-long churchgoer, he experienced a personal transformation and rebirth that led him to never miss an opportunity to give witness to his faith. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh by reading jokes to friends and family. He also enjoyed playing the piano for group sing-alongs. He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and his compassion. Paul is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Brad Steiger of Ventura, Iowa; his granddaughter Melissa, her husband Brad Schoneberg, and his great-granddaughter Sophia of Mason City, Iowa ; his sisters-in-law Delores Lebeck of Dearborn, Michigan, and Cheryl Kramm and her husband John and family of Rochester, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul, Jr.; his grandson, Erik Hansen, and his wife Lorraine. A memorial will be held for Paul Lippold will be held at Harmony Community Baptist Church 10701 E. Boulder Road, Apache Junction, AZ on Sunday, April 17 at 12:30 p.m. Memorial gifts in Paul's name may be sent to Harmony Community Baptist Church in care of Dr. Tommy Foster, telephone number 480-324-0202.

As I read Paul's obituary I read about his attendance at some of the best schools in the nation, his successful accomplishments, and his many family and friends. He would admit these were all gifts from God.
What is the chief end of all men? Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
My relationship with Paul was a gift from God. It was an honor and delight to know and love him. He will be greatly missed. As the words and melody Paul sang so often says, "I'm as happy as can be for Jesus lives in me. Happy, Happy me!"
