Sherri May Obituary

May, Sherri Lin
Sherri left us far too early in life, passing away April 10, 2011, but her grace and beauty will forever be in our hearts. Born in Globe, AZ November 10, 1956, her family moved to the Phoenix area when she was a little girl. She loved Phoenix, the warm weather, movies, and the newest in shopping . . ."The Mall". But Sherri was not destined to remain in the valley and again her family was transferred to Flagstaff when Sherri was just beginning high school, where soon she would meet the love of her life, Jim. Marrying her high school sweetheart in 1974, Sherri and Jim began sharing an adventure lasting over 36 years. Sherri began her professional career in 1977 at what was then Valley National Bank. She served in many banking positions in the branches and in sales and marketing. Her innovative, engaging approach to employee customer communication helped the bank through several mergers and acquisitions. She left Bank One in 1997 to start her own business, Sherri May & Company, a creative services and marketing company specializing in the financial services industry. Through her creativity, keen business sense, devoted business partnerships, and fun-loving personality, Sherri grew the business from a one-woman shop to a staff of 10. Sherri instilled a sense of confidence and true appreciation for everyone with whom she worked. As one client said recently, "Sherri always made you feel like everything was going to be OK." Sherri is survived by her husband Jim, their two sons Dan and Timothy, and one granddaughter Suzanne. She was preceded in death by her father Jerry Wenzel. Her mother, Laura Lou Wenzel resides in Peoria, AZ along with her younger brother Kris Wenzel of Phoenix. We will honor and celebrate Sherri's life on April 16th at the North Phoenix Baptist Church located at 5757 N. Central Avenue in Phoenix, beginning with a public viewing at 1:00 PM and funeral service at 2:00 PM. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories and condolences by visiting the online obituary Guest Book at www.obits.azcentral.com Sherri always included her favorite quote of the week with her emails to friends and clients. Her last quote was from author Dave Barry which said "Nobody cares it you can't dance, Just get up and dance."

Dear Sherri: Merry Christmas.
We always remember you this time of the year and think of all the wonderful Christmas meals you prepared for so many of us over the years. Happy Thanksgiving, dear Sherri:
You were remembered today as we celebrated our Thanksgiving. We will never forget how you liked your gravy, especially without all the giblets. Papa always fixed some special for you. We missed his cooking today so the group had to do with mine. I believe they agreed that I was not the cook that Papa was for all those years. We missed both of you and will always think of those special times we had together. Today just reminded us of the good times we had when you and Papa were here. You will forever be in our hearts and the memories you left are special.
Love you,

Today Papa and I visited your gravesite. What beautiful flowers you had. Your team from SM&Co. had placed a beautiful bouquet in a watering can with a note that said, "We still miss you." Some leis were there and looked like around the leis were cut-out flowers with initials on them. Then a beautiful vase of roses. I took you an orchid and placed with the other flowers. We do miss you so much but have joy when we know where you are and that place is heaven. Our pain is still real but our memories of you never fade.

Love always,
Papa & Mam May

Happy Easter Sherri:

It is a beautiful Easter Morning--Resurrection Sunday. Getting ready for church, thinking of you and how you would love to be with us today as we all celebrate together our Risen Savior and then have lunch at the San Marcos, Chandler. We know you will be with us in spirit and we will be able to experience your love and laughter as we all knew you and loved you. Your memory lives on in us.

February 5, 2012

Dear Sherri:

It seems like I miss you more every day. Just today I was thinking about you as I was getting ready to go to church.
I will never understand why you had to leave us so early in life when your life was so full of so many good things. Your wonderful marriage, your two boys, your daughter-in-law and that sweet granddaughter was your life. Also, how much you loved and adored Brittnee and would one day have seen her come into your family. She loved and misses you also. We have to believe that when we get to heaven, all these answers and doubts will be answered for us. For now, memories are still getting us through every day. You will always remain in our hearts.
Love,
Mam May

December 26, 2011

Our dear Sherri:

Just can't begin to tell you how we missed you this Christmas season. Your beauty and memories of times past will linger with us forever. At Christmas dinner, we all recalled some of the beautiful dinners you served us and how you made it all look so easy with so many people!!!
I took the reins this year but nothing was as elegant as you always made it. Jim and the boys are celebrating your life with Christmas in Hawaii, your favorite place. I know you must be celebrating the "Christ of Christmas" face to face.
Love always,

December 11, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving Sherri:

You were greatly missed at our table today, but we felt your presence as Papa prepared the "Sherri" gravy. It was a little difficult at first for all of us because you were missing in our prayer circle before our "big" meal. You will forever have a place in all of our hearts.

I was fortunate to be the person who Sherri chose to paint with. She was one of my very first students and always my favorite. I helped her to perfect her painting, but she perfected my attitude towards life. Her obvious joy was infective! We had one hilarious painting experience that stands out among all of the rest. She wanted to paint an adirondack chair, on the beach, with a martini glass on the arm. Oh, how we laughed and struggled with that chair! But we kept at it and finally she was able to go home with the painting. I believe I know who the recipient was...but just in case...please know that it was painted with typical Sherri mirth! A truly wonderful person. I am grateful to have known her and I will never forget her.

I had the beautiful opportunity to know Sherri through but a few phone calls and email messages connecting us in our life coach training. Sherri's genuine caring for others was effervescent in her approach to others. I always felt so fortunate to have been touched by her genuine kindness and sincere outpouring of grace. She felt like an angel on earth. I am grateful for the gifts Sherri bestowed upon my life and sending my love to all who will miss her in theirs.

April 21, 2011

To Sherri's family and colleagues there in Arizona, I would like to extend my sincere condolences. Sherri and I were students together these last three months. Through phone calls and emails, I very quickly connected with her positive spirit and obvious ability to make everything she did a 'success" not just in the every-day sense of the word (though definitely that too) but also in the big picture scheme of things that's easy to forget in the day-today logistics -- she seemed keenly aware of the lightness, humor and beauty of living. She spoke so highly to me of her family and of her colleagues -- know that she was keenly aware of how much you meant to her. I know she felt lucky to have all of you.

I had the great pleasure of working for Sherri, and the wonderful band of people she assembled at Bank One and beyond. To this day, whenever I see a pink Post-It Note, I think of Sherri and I smile. She was one of those eternally optimistic souls who always made you feel welcome and worthy, and on top of the world when you left. I hope we can all step up our game to help fill the void of optimism she has left behind. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

We knew and loved Sherri through our daughter, Mary Jane Helm. She gave Mary Jane a baby shower even when M.J. was in the hospital awaiting her twins. She brightened any
room she entered. I know she will always be near in her spirit.

There are no words to properly express how badly we feel about your loss.

Do not dwell on her passing but rather celebrate her life. You have a lot of friends out there and we are all here to support you.

To Sherri's friends and family,
I had the great pleasure of knowing Sherri while she was employed at Valley National Bank and many of my fondest memories include Sherri. I am saddened by her death - too soon, too young!!!! A saying I have found solice in when a loved one is taken too soon is "they are not gone who live in the hearts they left behind" and I know that Sherri lives in all the hearts that she touched in her short time here.

I am heartsick beyond words at your loss Jim, Timothy, Dan, Tasha, Suzanne, Laura Lou, Kris, Priscilla & Kristopher as well as everyone who loved Sherri. Since we were kids she was the one who was overflowing with light, joy and mischief. Ask Nikki for her stories. I have never known anyone who loved to laugh more, or had more ability to bring everyone into her circle of joy - even if it was for just a moment. We are all blessed by her presence and will hold her in our hearts. We send our love to the Mays and Wenzels.

To Sherri's family, especially Kimberly -- It's hard to even imagine the enormity of your loss. We met Sherri when she came to Ohio for Theda's funeral and to be with Kimberly and help her with her Mother's apartment. Sherri's generous, giving, unselfish nature was obvious from the moment we were introduced. I remember Kimberly saying, "That's just who she is - she loves life and people!" What a wonderful legacy for you to remember and follow. Our love and prayers are with you.

Jim, Dan & Timothy:

Words just cannot express how our hearts feel for all of you today. Sherri was the kind of wife, mother, daughter and daughter-in-law that we were so proud to have in our life for 30 plus years. We agree that she was taken too early and such a tragic death that we will never understand why. We will always remember those wonderful Christmas dinners that she fixed for the family, the beauty and her charm that she displayed all around us.
I know that God has that place for her mentioned in John 14:1-3. This is our only comfort that one day we will see her again. So, we give thanks that she touched so many lives. The grief and the pain will be there a long time so
we pray that you all will feel that peace as time goes by. The memories will be so special so keep them in your heart. We offer our love and sympathy.
