I'm so saddened by Nancy's passing. She had a smile that could light up a room. Nancy and I worked together at Connolly Middle School for several years. I enjoyed watching her interact and work so patiently with children with learning challenges. She was caring and kind. The most important thing in the world to her was her family. She adored her 'girls' and she loved being Anna and Holly's mom. My prayers and thoughts are with your family. I hope you find strength in each other.

I consider it such a great honor to have become friends with Nancy over the last few years; however, this only came about because of the terrible burden she was forced to bear – Cancer. Through Nancy’s participation with her dear friends each year in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event in Gilbert, our paths began crossing annually (and we began touching base regularly). Her amazing strength and courage were inspirational to all of us and we will treasure the wonderful memories we shared from each event, as well as outside of Relay. Over the years, Nancy became the “face” of our fundraising event, and I always think of her with a smile and a heavy heart when I see pictures of her in her signature pink hat. A beautiful woman with a strong sense of independence, perseverance and great pride.

In one of our most recent visits, Nancy asked that I make sure that “Team Nancy’s” campsite would be placed next to ours at this year’s Relay event on April 29th and so, please know, that (Nancy) you will ALWAYS be with us in our hearts, in our minds and in our efforts that will continue in your honor--to help find a cure for Cancer.

Nancy and I were very good friends in grade school. We spent a lot of hours at each other's homes. During middle school we went in different directions, but she was always a special part of my life.

We kept in touch through e-mail and during her jaunts to Waupaca we usually ran into each other.

I was extremely saddened when she told me about her cancer. She continued in my thoughts and prayers these past years, along with her family.

I remember the last time I ran into her at Piggly Wiggly. She told me about being such an "old" lady to have such young girls, but said she just was so blessed to have them. She loved her family and that was apparent.

May God give you the peace that only He can provide. Nappers was the special type of friend that will live forever in our hearts and memories. We'll miss you Nancy. Our class of "73" will never be the same without you.

Nancy and I were very good friends in grade school. I spent many hours at her home and she at mine. Middle school was a time of growing and following other paths, but she always was special to me. We stayed in touch on e-mail and her jaunts to Waupaca usually had me running into her at places like Piggly Wiggly. I was so shocked and saddened to have her tell me about her cancer. She continued to be in my thoughts and prayers during these past years, along with her family. She was a kind and true friend through the years and I know personally that I will miss her greatly.

I remember one of the last times I had a conversation with her (Piggly Wiggly parking lot) and how excited she was to tell me about her daughters and the joy that she had in having them. She was joking about how "old" she was, but how blessed she was to have had them.

May God give you the peace that only He can give. Nancy was one of the special people that will live forever in our hearts and memories.

I knew Nancy through my sister Connie Halverson. Nancy and Connie were grade school friends. I became an e-mail buddy with Nancy when we were each being treated for breast cancer. We shared stories and coping skills by e-mail. Nancy was a brave woman and loved by all. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Though our families grew apart and I hadn't seen you in forever, I still think of you often. I'll always remember playing hide-n-go seek in the funeral home and you locking yourself in one of the caskets!!!! I used to love to visit y'all in Waupaca!

Peace, dear cousin. My thoughts are with you and your family. Say hi to Aunt Mary.

Email, email, email. A few years back Nancy and I discovered Email. Several times a week we would send each other messages, mostly gossip (he hee), we had a great time. When Nancy started feeling bad the emails slowed down but every once in a while she would surprise me and send me a quick one and ask me to catch her up on things. I think our camping trips were the most fun, I know Nancy always looked forward to summer and our next trip.
I'll never forget the fun times.
Rest in Peace my friend, You will always be in our hearts.

Aunt Nancy aka "Napper"; I have so many great memories I don't know where to begin. I will always remember when you and Randy would visit Waupaca. We would usually play dress up, I would try on all your shoes, swim at the lake, and visit the petting zoo. You were always there to share a laugh and be one of the kids.
You were always like a second mother to me and such a huge part of my life. I felt like I could share anything with you. It was great sharing common stories and life experiences together. Together we always tried to focus on the positive. I will miss you so much but you will always have a place in my heart. I love you and miss you.

Capture the flag, kick the can, and hanging at the Holly house was pretty much my childhood memories of Nancy. We drifted apart after high school but re-connected a few years ago when she heard my wife was battling cancer and she shared her own story with me which gave me more strength to deal with it. She made the world a better place and I won't forget her.

I met Nancy in Waupaca, getting to know her a little bit mostly through sports. We really became friends later, as adults, when she hunted me down after my dad moved away from Waupaca. Not that we e-chatted so often, but we both enjoyed sharing our news and hearing about each other.

I was very upset when she shared that she had cancer and had been fighting it for some time...and I never quite knew what to say, just like right now. The last time I wrote to her, I told her how much I admired her courage and her humanity, and I still do. It takes real guts to spit at death and not really complain too much and still share love. Nancy did that.

Kim correctly makes the point that Nancy is the most beloved member of our class - not something she looked for, but something she earned by being gentle, kind, and a friend to all.

I will miss Nancy very much.
