Natalie Litman Obituary

Litman, Natalie Mayer
Natalie Mayer Litman, 96, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away April 10, 2011. She was born in Kansas City, MO July 4, 1914, the second daughter of Millard Nathan Mayer and Minka Reefer Mayer. She attended schools in Kansas City, graduating from Sunset Hill School and later graduated from Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA. Then she married Chester K. Litman, a graduate of Harvard University. Their small wedding took place in Kansas City where they took up residence. While living in Kansas City Natalie was involved in Head Start, Panel of American Women, and many other civic activities as well as raising two daughters and keeping a wonderful home. In 1972 they moved to Phoenix, AZ, where both became active in the community. Natalie first volunteered at the Heard Museum and then spent 35 years volunteering as teacher's aide in both the Madison and Balsz Districts. Chet volunteered at the Heard Museum and later at a Balsz school. From the time Natalie was a small child until the mid 90's she and her family spent most summers at a family cottage on Walloon Lake in northern Michigan, swimming, boating, reading and enjoying the beautiful views from the front window. Chet died in 2003, ending 67 year's marriage of good works, good travels, and good friends. Natalie continued the spirit of good deeds, volunteering until the effects of age slowed her down. She died peacefully with family nearby. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Marie Mayer Alexander. Surviving are her two daughters, Martha L. Albrecht and Barbara L. Cullman, three grandchildren, David Fry, Michael Fry, and Beth Cullman, and great-grandchild, Matthew Fry. No services are planned, per Natalie's request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com to leave online condolences.

Natalie and Chet were espacially welcoming and helpful. They were both gracious hosts and mentors ro me and my wife, Rosette. They both were solid in their devotion to the Jewish Community, paticulary with Tthe Jewish Federation. Sol Koenigsberg, Executive Director, Emeritus, Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas Cuity

As one of the Koch family it was a privilege to work for Chet and to get to know Nat. They were two remarkable people from whom I, and many others, learned much. I've often supposed that Mr. Mayer had to be so pleased with what Nat brought home from college, in addition to the diploma. She was a great lady, a gracious hostess, and a pleasure to know. My sympathies to her daughters.
