McCluskey, Dorothy Mae Hess Carter
86, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on March 29, 2011. One of ten children born to Abraham Lincoln and Elva Mae (Hershberger) Hess, she spent most of her youth in Hesston, Kansas. As an independent woman raising her children alone, she moved from Kansas to Seattle, Washington looking for a better life. After retiring from The Boeing Company, she traveled the world visiting Europe, Russia, Israel, Egypt, and China, where she was detained for bringing in Bibles. She is survived by sister Barbara Winters and brothers Leroy and Edwin Hess, children Susan Corlett (John) and Gilbert Carter (Di), grandchildren Elliott McAllister (Sierra), Nathan and Tera Carter, step-grandchildren Jonathan K. Corlett (Shannon) and Leslie Flynn (Patrick) as well as two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Services have been held.
