Elizabeth Phelps Obituary

Phelps, Elizabeth Anita (Betty)
81, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on April 13, 2011. If you knew her, you loved her. Betty began life's journey May 18, 1929 in Van Lear, KY, and ended her journey April 13, 2011, in Phoenix, AZ. She married the love of her life, Tom Phelps, at the tender age of 17, became a mother at age 18, and spent the rest of her life devoted to God, family and in service to others. Betty was preceded in death by parents Henry & Flossie (Calhoun) Burnette, brother Henry, sisters Phyllis & Patricia, and her husband of 53 years, Tom Phelps (1988). She is survived by sisters Martha & Donna, daughter Anita (Keith) Poling, grandchildren David (Richelle) Shockley, Tom (Tiffany) Shockley, Elizabeth (Justin) Frear, Jay (Melissa) Poling, Shaun Poling and Joel (Cyndi) Poling. Great-grandchildren Tiffany (Tony) Sams, Jessica Shockley, Megan Shockley, Aubrey & Carson Frear, Jake & Austin Hagerty, and great-great grandson Drake Sams. Quite a legacy for a lady who battled a damaged heart from childhood and was told she would not live past age 10! After moving to Arizona in 1952, she was blessed with decades of active living. Visitation Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 1:00pm with services beginning at 2:00pm at Phoenix Memorial Cemetery, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix, Arizona. Go in peace, Mom, you were a "good and faithful servant"...till we meet again...and we will!

So much of who I am is because of Grandma. I was so blessed to learn from her and to have received her love and spoiling! 38 years doesn't feel like enough... I will miss her every day.

Betty's love and caring for her family was second only to her love for God. Her life was a testament showing everyone about her that Jesus was the Lord of her life. She will be missed but never forgotten.
