Schuller, Francis "Felix" Xavier
91, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on February 11, 2011. Cheerful and affable, our father and grandfather Francis X., or Felix as he loved to be called, was born 22 March 1919 in Hiawatha, West Virginia to Dr. Francis Xavier Sr. and Margaret (nee Roberts) Schuller. He was the second in a family of three children including brother Robert and sister Marjorie (Dunbar). Heeding Uncle Sam's call, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940. He served in World War II and the Korean War and sailed on the USS Vulcan, USS Stansbury, USS Ellis, USS Hank, USS Regulus, and USS Mississippi. On most of these ships, he was an independent duty corpsman - the only "Doc" available to provide medical care ranging from treating colds to setting broken bones for his shipmates. His shore duty stations included the Naval hospitals at Portsmouth, Annapolis, Philadelphia, Memphis, Camp Lejune, and San Diego. Out of his many assignments, he was most proud of time spent with the Navy Seals. He attained the rank of Chief Hospitalman (HMC) and retired from the US Navy in 1960. After his Navy years, he enjoyed several jobs including X-Ray technician at the Yavapai Community Hospital in Prescott, Arizona. While on shore duty in 1944 in Portsmouth, he met and married U.S. Navy Wave Margie Alice Bealer of Syracuse, New York. Felix has gone to be with our beloved Margie and their son, Jon Robert. He is survived by daughters Margaret "Peggi" Alice Wagle of Aurora, Colorado, and Lela Rose Dobbs of Yorba Linda, California. Felix's grandchildren are Lynda Hernandez, Karen Telles, Lisa Armendaris, Jennifer Stephens, Kathryn Grace, Eric Johnson, Gary Dobbs, Kristin Johnson. He has 9 great grandchildren. We are holding a small memorial ceremony on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 10:00am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ. Felix will be buried with Navy Honors next to Margie.
