Ted A. Smith, 53 year resident, retired attorney, passed after a 5 year battle with lung cancer and six tumors at 4:00 pm, April 17, 2011. Survived by wife, Georgene; daughters, Tanya Smith and Tracy Wilkinson; 2 grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley LoRee Wilkinson. Ted loved with a pure heart, had class in every circumstance, was kind, gentle, and was a "got your back" man. He had over 50 years of law practice in the Valley of the Sun. Admitted to US Supreme Court in 1968. He loved tennis trips to Hawaii, boogie boarding in Solana Beach and crusing the world with Georgene, his best friend and wife of 52 years. No flowers, donate to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014, preferred. Friends and family reminisce at club house April 26th at 6 pm. www.greenacresmortuary.net

Georgene, Tracy (LoRee, Zachary), Tanya and Jim - our sympathy is with you during this difficult time of loss. Ted was a true gentleman with a strong sense of beliefs tempered with balance toward what was fair for others. He had a keen sense of curiosity about the world around him and was very engaged in his community (wrote many editorial over the years). He was an amazing listener, bright and a true realist - great to bounce ideas off of. His enthusiasm for life radiated from his bright blue eyes and remained with him even during the most difficult of his cancer fighting days. In hoping to "see" him again one day his confident "YOU BET!!" can clearly be heard. Gail and Geno Forman (Phx, AZ)

We are so sorry for your loss of Uncle Ted. He was a kind and honorable man who gave us all a target to shoot for in our lives. My earliest memories of Ted was when he graduated high school and left for Washburn University. Grandmother Smith would write him letters and I wrote them too. He was kind enough to write back and encourage a niece who had just started school. On holidays from school, he would always charm this neice with his awesome blue eyes that just eked of sincerity and genuine interest in others. As he rose in his career, he made us all proud to be related. He was greatly loved and admired by us all. God bless Georgene and family to help them thru the loss of such a fine, gentle man.
With love for you all, Marji (Smith) Burgard and family
