Richard Cardew Obituary

Cardew, Richard Peter
91, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011, in Phoenix. Richard married Lois Sondstrom before being deployed overseas, and proudly served in the Army while station ed in England, France and Germany during World War II. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. After the war Richard became a registered patent agent and later worked as an engineering representative for National Iron Company and its succeeding comp anies. He retired in 1982 and spent his final years in Washington and Arizona. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Eva; wife Lois; eldest son Ricky, sisters Bernice (Huttner-Allen) and Lois (Orr); and brother Clarence. He is survived by his children, Jerry, Nancy (Ashland), Tom, Carol (Uraine), and David, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He taught us the importance of our families and how to appreciate and respect the outdoors while fishing and hunting. His legacy will continue as we pass down his many stories of growing up in Ely, hardships during the Depression, his military service, and his experiences in the great outdoors. A Memorial Service will be held at 4pm on Monday, April 25, at Valley View Bible Church, 4222 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley. A reception in the church Fellowship Hall will follow.

Dear cousins,
I am greatly saddened by the news of Uncle Bud's passing. I have many fond memories of him while in Seattle and as far back as a child when my mom and dad (Cal) drove us to California with a little trailer in tow to visit our Uncle Bud and Aunt Lois and all of you cousins many decades ago. Having just lost my dad, too, I empathize deeply with your loss. How blessed you have all been to have this wonderful man in your lives for so long. All of the memories you generated through family gatherings, cook book authorship, and outdoor experiences will continue to bring you comfort as you carry on Bud's legacy of family importance. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences.
