I met Bob through Willy Borchert at Tuff Side Boxing Gym, in South Phoenix.
With time, I started training with the group at 600a.m. at Willy,s home. I suppose this was my first experience with comradery. I really admired him. He was quiet and humble, but would put other boxers in their place.
That photo in the corner was our training spot at Willy,s. And..there was nowhere to run...let me tell you.
I especially enjoyed watching spar boxers from other gyms. Mostly heavyweights. I just knew Bob would catch them and down they go! Or just quit!
Wow..22 years ago. We were invited to spar Prison inmates at Florence and it was intimidating. And I suppose Bob became my hero that day. He sparred the biggest Vato heavyweight, I ever seen. And it was an obvious difference. But he handled him and got respect. And gave us the confidence to do our part.
I suppose the guidelines and lessons learned outside the ring, are not easy nor natural, for most of us.
I miss that guy. He taught lessons. He humbled many, including my younger brother. ( He needed that.)
I am grateful to have known him. And privileged to engage with him.
And I quote Shakespeare who said, " He who sheds his blood with me, will surely be called my brother."
Much love

Amelia and Irene...what to say? I struggle to find the appropriate words. I knew Bobby in highschool and we were close friends at that time. He was definitely the strong, silent type, but still so personable with his humor and smile. I have good memories, and he will be missed. You have my prayers for peace and comfort in the days ahead. I was encouraged by the service today.

I met Bob through Willy B. He impressed the hell out of me, as well as many other fighters with his tremendous power. I believe he was a good person.Although quiet, he was a good listener. He was loyal and did what was expected from him, as he trained. I remember his pro debut and his moment of greatness. There are many fighters who Bob made an impression upon. He was a pioneer of the sport of boxing, for Arizona. I will miss the moments and memories that he gave us. Rest in peace bomber.

No words can touch on the sorrow you all must be feeling. I can only say that with time it will heal but never will it every completely stop to cause pain! Hold tight in know that he is with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! He is where we all yearn to be and he feels no more sorrow or pain! He has happiness we can only try to imagine. May the Lord bring all of you comfort in this time. You will be in my prayers.
