Barbara Lamb Obituary

Lamb, Barbara Jean Correll
Barbara Jean Correll Lamb (Bobby) passed away peacefully on the evening of April 15th, 2011 in Mt. Angel, Oregon. She was 89. Barbara was born in Larimore, North Dakota, on May 21st, 1922 to Robert Meade and Lucy Bacon-Meade of Butte, Montana. She was legally adopted by Lafayette and Martha Correll of Casselton, North Dakota. Bobby was the apple of Lafe and Martha's eye and their only child. Barbara was a highly educated woman for her time. She graduated from Central Cass High School in 1941 and received her teaching certificate from the State Normal School at Valley City, North Dakota in 1943. With the war on she moved to Los Angeles to live with her mother's best friend, Grace Goodfellow, and Grace's husband, Ferdinand. Longing to be of service, Barbara was accepted into the physical therapy program at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and received her diploma in physical therapy in 1946. Barbara immediately went to work at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, Downey, California during the polio epidemic that was sweeping the country. This was in the days when polio patients were placed in iron lungs. For the next 30 years Barbara worked continuously restoring strength, confidence, and giving hope to thousands of physical therapy patients. At the height of her career she was the Chief of the Department of Physical Therapy at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Barbara married the dashing naval engineer Lt. George Covell Bohlander in 1946. The couple had three boys; Thomas, Brent (Lamb), and Jay (Lamb). After their marriage ended Barbara was re-married to Lehman L. Lamb of Dawson Creek, Kentucky in 1960. In 1962 Barbara gave birth to another son, Michael Spencer, and the four boys were raised together in Phoenix and Flagstaff. The family moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, in 1969. Barbara loved Oregon and would remain there for most of the rest of her life. Barbara was pre-deceased by both of her former husbands. She is survived by her four sons; seven grandchildren; Angela (Mackenzie), Kyle, Michael, Nicolas, Christina, Amber, and Keagan Lamb; and two great-grandchildren; Jonah and Oliver Mackenzie. Barbara's funeral arrangements were made with the Unger Funeral Chapel in Mt. Angel. Her boys will be transporting her ashes to be buried alongside her parent's remains at the Casselton City Cemetery, Casselton, North Dakota. Barbara leaves a legacy of service to the suffering, and a loving family which shares her devotion to the needs of others.
