Benjamin Hazelton Obituary

Hazelton, Benjamin Franklin IV
Benjamin Franklin Hazelton, IV passed away Monday, April 18th at the age of 71. Born December 25th, 1939 to Frances and Benjamin Franklin Hazelton, III in San Diego, he and his family relocated to Phoenix in 1955. After studying at the University of Pennsylvania, he enlisted in the Arizona Air National Guard where he served for several years as a medic. He enrolled at ASU to finish his degree while simultaneously managing some of the city pools during the summers. It is here where he met his beloved wife of 42 years, Virginia (Gina.) After being honorably discharged from the service, Ben finished his degree at ASU. Over the years he taught and coached at Gerard High School, was a Sales Rep. for Owens-Illinois Corp., and eventually VP of Aggregate Products where he later became President and Owner until his retirement in April of 2010. Ben felt one of his finest accomplishments was having and raising his 6 wonderful children. Always an avid sportsman, he passed this on to them, never missing a chance to cheer them on at their games and meets, either as a coach or proud fan. Modest, confident and incredibly hard-working, Ben instilled his high values and strong work ethic in his children. A void has been left in our family and in our hearts with his passing and he will be forever loved and forever missed. Ben is survived by his wife, Gina, children, Ben (Jennifer), Michael, Chris (Chrissy), Elizabeth, KC and Megan French (Mike), his brothers, Court (Linda) and John (Subie), 11nieces and nephews and 4 grandchildren. Funeral services will be privately held.

I was saddened to hear of Ben's passing. As mentioned in other comments,he was a terrific athlete, playing catcher on the varsity baseball team as a freshman and a crushing running back on the football team for several years. He had a good sense of humor and was a positive force in the class of '58.

I knew Ben for over 25 years when I worked for USG, and I always looked forward to the day I would be calling on him. He was a very special person and I know he will be missed by all.
