Jake Malone Obituary

Malone, Jake Charles
Born May 17, 1918 in Lorenzo, Texas to George and Ellie Malone and passed to eternity on April 20, 2011. Jake was one of six boys. His family moved to Arizona in 1920. He met, fell in love with, and married Florence E. Price in 1944 and was married 66 years. They made their home in Phoenix, Arizona with their six Children, Dan (Linda Smith), Michael (Cindy Zube), Kathleen (Bill Whitfill), Rebecca Jane, Brian, and Mary Beth (John Ptacek). Jake's loving grandchildren include Rebecca Malone (Jeff York), Kevin Malone, Bayne Malone (Chris Steward), Cheryl Whitfill (Bud Kayser), Troy Whitfill (Gwen Rathburn), Jessica Griffith (Gary Echito), Karie Malone (Adam Johnson), Megan Malone (Gaelan Gilbert), Danielle Ptacek, Evan Ptacek, Kristen Ptacek, and 15 great grandchildren. Jake retired after 35 years with Santa Fe Railroad. Jake enjoyed sporting events, picking a winner at greyhound park, a good game of golf, playing cards with Florence and friends and cultivating their citrus and pecan trees. He was a member of St. Simon & Jude Cathedral, and a member of the Moose Lodge. His passion for family and sports will forever play in our hearts, and on the fields of life. He has left, but our memories of our Dad will never fade. In lieu of flowers, please consider support to Hospice of the Valley and Arizona Alzheimer Association. Memorial service will be at 11 am on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix, AZ.

Happy Birthday Dad! You would have been ninety-nine today. There aren't too many days that go by, that I don't think about you and what could have been. You were a good dad and friend. You are truly missed.
Love always,

Michael

What fun I had bowling with you, Mary Beth and Mike. Been many years ago but I think of those nights very often. Especially with you'd have a bad shot and need to roll your shoulder to stretch it out. So much fun! If you run into my Mom tell him I love her and miss her desperately.

I was at a family gathering once and regret not getting the chance to speak with you or Florence. However, I feel like I know you both so well through my dearest friend, your daughter, Kathy. And, what I know is wonderful.

May yours & Mother's celebrations ring forever

Our Dear Dad,(aka Papa, Grandpa Jake, Grandfather, Mr. Malone, J.C.)

You are missed, to say the least, by many. The many things you taught us will forever engrain our thoughts: "family first; never give up; don't be a quitter; believe in yourself; everyone has problems, why not make the best of yours; don't settle for less; save your pennies; get enough education for what you want to become; put things back where they belong; if you borrow something, return it in a better condition than you received; don't take any wooden nickels, and remember to share with those who don't have."
Our Dad.........what I guy; what a man! He was abandoned as a child, by his dad. And, he made something, out of the nothing, that he was handed in life. With that, he shared what he made/had to those who had less...

Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Dad.
Lucky us!
Always with Love, & Utmost Respect,
Kathleen (aka #1 daughter, Kathy, Calhoun)

Hello Father,
How is Heaven ? You once told me it is a pretty far fetched idea yet you did not doubt Heaven exists. That was good to hear. There is not a day that goes by that both you & Mother & all your past family & friends are all together having a peaceful blast together!! Have you talked God into 18 holes yet with greenies :) I can't imagine Heaven without a Golf Course...
In a blink of an eye I'll be seeing you, or so it felt that way didn't it?
" Oh Bec of mine " say's I love you Dad. Thank you for everything you taught us, every place you took us & don't cheat ! :)
Tell Grandma Lundberg hello & thanks for remembering all our birthday's with a card & 2 one dollar bills !!

Grandpa Jake, you will definitely be missed here on earth, but you have touched each and every one of our lives in ways most of us will never know! Until we meet again in heaven, have fun dancing away with Grandmother, we love you!
