Kenneth Campbell Obituary

Campbell, LT. Kenneth L. USNR (Retired)
85 of Mesa, AZ, passed away on April 28, 2011. During World War II, Kenneth Campbell enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as the Radioman aboard PT-518, one of the twelve boats of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 35. The Squadron saw action in the English Channel during D-day and the months following the invasion of Europe. Campbell was then transferred to the Pacific Theater but arrived in the Phillippines after Japan had surrendered. For his service during the war years, he was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Medal with 1 Star, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1950 with a BS Degree in Physics, he was commissioned a Lt(jg) in the USNR and served as an Intelligence Officer until his retirement in December, 1968. Following his retirement, he did extensive volunteer work in the Mesa area. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 yrs, Mary Lou. He is survived by daughter, Nancy, son, Richard, and brother, Don. No services. Donations to Hospice of the Valley.

Ken was a fine gentleman and a wonderful historian of the PT service. My late father served on the 518 with Ken and they both visited Battleship Cove together. I have fond memories of his visits to my Dad's house on several occasions. My deepest sympathy to his family.
