Peter Golightly Obituary

Golightly, Peter Simpson
66, passed away at his home on April 30, 2011. Born June 17, 1944, in Ford City, Pennsylvania, Pete is survived by his wife, Mary; children, John (Lisa), Christine, and Jessica (Kyle); grandchildren, Holly, Ian, Abby, Sarah, and Katie; and brother David and family. Pete and Mary were married while Pete was serving in the U.S. Army, from which he was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Married for 42 years, they raised their children in Tempe before retiring to Queen Creek. A lifelong Rotarian, Pete was committed to charity and community service. His passion however was cars, especially Street Rods. Pete worked for over 40 years in the auto industry, retiring in 2010 from his service manager position at Thorobred Chevrolet after 21 years there. He was also an active member of the Over the Hill Gang Car Club in both Phoenix and Scottsdale. Visitation will be May 5th, 6 to 8pm (rosary at 7pm), at Queen of Heaven Mortuary in Mesa. A funeral mass will be held May 6th at 11am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Queen Creek. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Hospice of the Valley provided Pete wonderful comfort and care in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley, www.hov.org.

Pete was a great boss to work for and a good person to talk to if you needed ideas or help with anything. Pete hired me 16 years ago at Thorobred when I was visitiing from Illinois and wanting to move here. He held that position for me until we were ready to move. I will miss him very much. We will be thinking and praying for your family during this hard time. It was very nice to meet all of Pete's family. May God Bless You All! Steve and Sally Harland

Mary, I was so sorry to learn about Pete...doubly sorry that I didn't know he was ill. I've told you over the decades (since 1979) how much I loved and admired Pete--such a brilliant and interesting guy. What a loss.
