Gary Roberts Obituary
age 54, passed away on May 1, 2011. Gary was born in Ashtabula, Ohio and moved to Phoenix at age 2 1/2. He attended Desert View School, Sunnyslope High School and was a graduate of Grand Canyon University. He was gifted on the french horn from grade school through college. He was in the Boy Scouts of America. He sang in the Phoenix Boys Choir, directed by Harvey Smith. Gary is preceded in death by his father Gene Roberts, Sr. and brother Gene Roberts, Jr. He is survived by his mother La Verne I. Howard and stepfather James E. Howard. Visitation will be 5 - 8 pm Friday, May 6, 2011 at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 9 am at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Hansen Desert Hills Memorial Park, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ. Donations can be made to Maricopa Medical Center, 2619 East Pierce St., Phoenix, AZ 85008 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Gary helped me by singing on recordings of songs and videos that we made to teach children to read . His voice is still heard daily in many classrooms . He was a good friend to my husband and I

Tom and I still think about Gary . He had a great sense of humor and great musical talent . He helped me record some songs to teach children how to read . Because of this his voice is still heard weekly on our campus and other schools around the world

I am so sorry to hear that Gary has passed away. I was Gary's band teacher at Desert View School. He was by far one of my very favorite people as well as being an outstanding student!
