Daniel Rosen Obituary

Rosen, Daniel Joseph
passed away on April 29, 2011 at Estrella Banner Medical Center in Phoenix Arizona. Daniel was born in the Brooklyn, New York on May 9th 1939, to the parents of Marian and William Rosen. He was a veteran and served his country during the Korean War. He returned from the war and started his own deli company in New Jersey. Dan was employed as a long haul truck driver for many years, where he met his wife and settled in Phoenix in 1978. He became a heavy equipment mechanic for Salt River Project at the Tempe Garage, where he retired in 2001. Daniel was very active in community service. He started a program called Smiles for Miles for underprivileged children building bicycles. He received an award from President Bill Clinton for Smiles for Miles. He was avid blood donor for which he received an award for donating 10 gallons of blood. Another program that was very important to him was being a mentor for at risk children. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna Rosen, in 2004, and his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Rosen. He is survived by his brother, Michael, 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Graveyard services will be held on Saturday May 7th, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Resthaven Cemetery 6450 West Northern Ave Glendale AZ 85301. Dan was like a father to me in many ways. He was very giving and compassionate. He was an important part of my family and especially important to my husband. We will miss him very much.

Dan was a good man and a good friend. He would give you the shirt off his back and always was ready with a joke or story. I shall miss him.
