Jane Guard Obituary

Guard, Jane Becker
8-27-18 - 4-22-11. Jane was a wonderful mother and wife passed away at the age of 92 in Vancouver, Washington. We wish to celebrate, honor and remember a life well lived. Jane was born in Springfield, MA to Alice and Folke Becker and raised in Rhinelander, Wis. Jane attended Connecticut College for Women and the University of Uppsala in Sweden. In 1941 Jane married John R. Tomek. They had two daughters, Karin & Susann in Wausau, Wis. In 1953 they moved to Scottsdale, AZ along with Jane's horse, Beau. It is in Arizona where her love of horses flourished. At Pretty Penny Ranch in Paradise Valley she taught riding lessons. Jane married Warren "Bud" Guard
in 1973 Jane's passion was horseback riding, but also filled her life with friends, gardening, bridge, cooking, golf and traveling. She served on the Board of the Margarita Ride. She was a Las Damas and a member of the Zoo Auxillary. Jane was a founding member of the Desert Saddle Bags. As the founder said "...soon our husband's will call us "old bags" so we'll get the jump on them and call ourselves the "Saddle Bags..." Jane move to Brush Prairie, WA in 2009 to be close to her daughter Karin and family. Jane is survived by her brother, Folke Becker, daughters, Karin (Paul) Stehlik of Brush Prairie, WA and Susann (Reed Hammond) Tomek of Scottsdale, AZ. Grandson John (Merridy) Stehlik of Hood River, OR and great grandson's Jack and Andrew Stehlik. Step-daughters Suzanne (Tuck Stevenson) Guard of N.Y., N.Y. and Patty Badenoch of Scottsdale, AZ. Skyler (fiance Sahar) Badenoch, Washington, D.C. Jillian Kersten, grandchildren Ella and Kate Kersten. Jane was preceded in death by husband Warren Guard, brother John Becker, sister Lisa Smith and son-in-law Don Badenoch. Memorial donation to a charity of choice.
