George McKnight Obituary

McKnight, George Taylor
74, of Surprise, AZ passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011. He was born January 23, 1937, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Velma Gore and George Perrill McKnight. George graduated from Southwest High School, Kanasas City, MO in 1955 and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS in 1959, where he was an active member of Phi Kappa Si Fraternity. George's education and gift to gab led to a very sucessful career in sales and dedicated friend to all. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Since moving to Surprise, AZ in December 2001, he and his beloved wife, Linda, shared a special love and were true sole-mates. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. George was an avid golfer and took great joy in his 'hole in one.' While his sons were growing up, he was actively involved in coaching community activities with Little League football, baseball and basketball. His passion for sports included a 47 year season ticket holder for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. George took great pride in attending his grandchildren's school and sports events, where they always knew of his presence by his infamous whistle call. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandpartents. George is survived by his wife Linda, his children George Scott McKnight (Wrenda), Nixa, MO; Jana Lynn Loge (Mark), Nixa, MO; David Thomas McKnight (LeAnne), Lee's Summit, MO; and Amber Louise Duarte (Chuck), Blue Springs, MO; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and his precious Bischon "white girls", DeDe and Jinny. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Arizona Traditions Retreat Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley 14066 W. Waddell Rd Surprise, AZ 85379. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeremy P. Feldman and Hospice of the Valley.

David, Jana and Scott,

I am very sorry to hear of your Dad passing. I have great memories of him and the way he made everyone laugh, especially calling David and Scott the "BM's", (Brothers McKnight)! Lots of good times out on Tam-O-Shanter. Our sympathies.

To George's family, I express my deepest condolences. I am so thankful that Linda met George and that you all shared him so willingly with my boys. He always made them feel very loved, even when life was not always perfect. He had the grace to look past all of the drama of my children's lives and helped them to do the same. We all miss him so much. Please do not think that our absence today reflects in anyway how we feel about your loss. May you hear his laughter eternally and find solace in the many lives he touched. What memories! George and I met in 1st grade and were together almost every day through high school. Although we have not seen each other often since not a day goes by that some memory does not come up. My best regards to all his family. He will be missed by many but not forgotten.

George is one of the dear guys I remember from growing up in Kansas City; first at Border Star, then Southwest High. Something that always makes me smile is recalling those pick-up baseball and football games at the park across the streetcar tracks from Wolferman's, not far from George's house. He was a good guy and a "good man". Sandy Jacobs

McKnight Family,
Ever since I met Pap-pa he always treated me as one of the family and that meant a lot to me growing up. I will always remember his engaging laugh, funny stories, great smelling cologne, his gold jewelry, his Cadillac's, and his love of football. I am truly saddened by his passing and my condolences go out to all the family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Linda and to all the McKnight Family our condolences. I considered George as Family as the Dowd's and McKinghts ae tied together through Vea Dowd (Frank's 1st wife and my aunt). I was in the Wholesale Building Material business before taking over my Dad's position at Beverly Lumber. George and I used to run into each other traveling Kansas. I always enjoyed his company and friendship.

Jana, David, Scott, your families, and wife Linda,
George was one in a million - "T" is for terrific, he used to say, and I can still see him yelling at the TV screen when the KC Chiefs games were televised! George was such a loving father, thoughtful person, and a most important influence in my children's lives. Wherever he went, he left a laugh and a smile because of his endearing personality and love for people. His parting is truly too soon. Jana, David and Scott - I think of you all quite often and truly regret your loss. I keep you in my prayers - God bless you all at this time.

George was one of the kindest men I have had the pleasure of meeting. I was blessed with the opportunity to care for him during his hospital stays. I was able to witness the love shared between George and Linda and I enjoyed getting to know them both. The support they provided to one another during times of need was admirable. My thoughts go out to his family and friends during this time of loss. He made a positive impression on my life and I will remember him fondly.

George loved life and the people in it. And the world was a better place because he was in it. We were High School classmates and he introduced me to my current husband of 54 years. So glad we got to see him at our last reunion. Our sympathies to his wife and family.
