Jane Schnoor Obituary
Schnoor, Jane Anne
Our beautiful mother passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 90 with her immediate family members at her bedside. The daughter of John Henry and Mae Manspeaker Wood, Jane was born in Juniata, Pennsylvania on November 7, 1920. She graduated from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia and became a registered nurse. In the spring of 1947, Jane met Richard H. Schnoor of Armonk, NY and they were married in July of 1948. It was a long and joyful marriage. After initially living in Manhattan where they had their first child, Christopher, they moved in the early 1950's to White Plains in Westchester County where son Steven was born. They eventually built a home in Armonk, NY, on the Whippoorwill Golf Course, where they had their third child, Susan. "Tee House," as it became known, was where they raised their three children and hosted many social events over the next 26 years. In the 1960s Jane and Dick discovered Scottsdale, AZ where they wintered throughout the 1970s and 80s, eventually establishing full-time residence there in 1986. In 1996, they moved to Westminster Village. Her interests over the years included golf, bridge, gardening, playing the piano, and worldwide travel. She was also a fabulous cook, a skill she taught her children, and with which she made the Schnoor kitchen renowned among family and friends. In addition, she had a great sense of fun, making her a charming hostess. Jane is survived by her three children, one step daughter, and their families; Christopher and his wife Nora of Boise, Idaho; Steven and his wife Pam of Mercer Island, WA; Susan and her husband Edward Brachocki of Scottsdale, AZ; and her step-daughter Sandy Heywood of Tucson, AZ. In addition, Jane has 6 grandchildren: Leslie, Heidi, Emily, Duncan, Rebecca, and Harry; as well as four great grandchildren: Rory, Shona, Caelan, and Keene. The family wishes to thank the staff at Westminster Village and the Weyrich Healthcare Center for their loving and dedicated care of Jane, as well as Hospice of the Valley for assisting Jane in a dignified passing. A memorial service will be held in the near future. Donations in Jane's name may be made to Hospice of the Valley at 5111 N. Scottsdale Rd., Ste.108. Scottsdale, AZ 85250 or to the Westminster Village Scholarship Fund at 12000 N. 90th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. "The family went home today. Sad the celebrating is over. It all went too fast." - an excerpt from one of Jane's journals.
