Wang, Lucy Yung-Ling
Lucy Yung-Ling Wang at the age of 90 passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2011 with her family in attendance. Born in China, she came to America as a teenager and earned degrees in business and mathematics. She had a long career as an educator at a private school in Alexandria, VA in both math and the Chinese language, having authored one of the first elementary school texts introducing the Mandarin language to English speakers. She later served as headmistress at the same school. She retired to Sun City West, AZ where she enjoyed travelling and volunteering at the local school and hospital. In 2009, she moved back to Virginia to live with her son, Vincent, his wife, Teresa, and their two children, Joseph and Jonathan. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren as they grew and sharing in their accomplishments. In addition to her son and his family, she is survived by her brother, Eddie Wang, her two sisters, Mary Lacson and Elizabeth Wang, and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Friday, May 20th, from 6 - 8pm with services being held on Saturday, May 21st, at 10am with a reception immediately following; both at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or Evercare Hospice.For information visit

I am truly sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was a great source of compassion and understanding for me at Ascension and I will always treasure her profound kindness and guidance. Her influence during those few years of school have lasted a lifetime and I will always be eternally grateful to her.

Dear Vincent,
I was devastated to learn of your mothers's death, particulary because she had been in this general area for some months before her demise and I was unaware of this and missed the opportunity to visit her. I should have suspected something was wrong when the Postal Service returned my 2010 Christmas card addressed to her in Sun City West as undeliverable.
Lucy Wang was a scholar, a great teacher, and a loyal faculty member of Ascension Academy, which she rescued by coming out of retirement at a critical moment to become headmistress when Audrey Routier, her predecessor, had to resign suddenly for reasons of health.
May her soul rest in peace.

Dear Vincent,
It is with much sadness that we received the news of your beloved Mother's recent passing.You know she was very very dear to her late youngest brother and made numerous trips to visit him and family here in Singapore and vice versa. Our deepest heartfelt prayers and condolences to you and family. I enjoyed getting to know your Mother for the first time on her last trip here when she stayed with us. Despite her advanced years, she willed herself to make the solo trip and I know it was driven by her love. She is such a strong and admirable woman for all her achievements, the greatest perhaps of which is love. She has indeed lived a very long and full life, filled with meaningful relationships. What more could anyone ask for? May your hearts be comforted.
