Wefer, Jim "Red"
Jim "Red" Wefer, 85, of Payson, AZ passed away May 3, 2011. He was born April 24, 1926 in Sayre, OK to Walter and Leavita Love Wefer. Jim joined the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in 1944 after declining an agricultural deferment. He was part of the largest armada in history which liberated the Philippines. He moved to Arizona after WWII and worked 35 years as a telephone service repair man for Mountain Bell installing many of the dial houses around our state as we progressed from operator to automatic telephone service. Jim is survived by his son Mark Wefer (Gail); grandsons Jon and Joe Wefer of Phoenix; three great-grandsons; nieces De Steret of Chandler and Deborah Peterson of Clify,KY; nephew Earl Wayne Sterrett of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; step-children Nancy Beldock (Elton), Mark Jordan (Mary Jo) and Emily Jordan (John Krause) all of Phoenix; six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife Elizabeth Wefer. Jim's memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd. in Goodyear, AZ. The service will be followed by military honors and a balloon release at sunset. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Whispering Pines Fire District , 928.474.3088. You may send the family condolences at www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com.
