James Dixon Obituary

Dixon, James Lawrence Sr.
passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 14, 2011, surrounded by his family. He lived every moment of his 64 years to its fullest. Jim was born to Lawrence and Margaret Dixon on October 11, 1946 in Hollywood, California. He was raised in Eagle Rock and graduated from St. Francis High School in Los Angeles. Jim went on to attend University of Portland before starting a 30-year career in Sales. In 1996, he began a new path working at the Franciscan Renewal Center. He was a true jack-of-all-trades and will be missed by many. Jim is survived by his five children, Jennifer, Juliette, Jamie, Jodie, and James Jr., twelve grandsons, longtime companion Cathy, sister Charlene, and beloved pets Bruno and Luvvy. Services will be at the Franciscan Renewal Center, with a Vigil on Thursday, May 19 at 7 PM and a Funeral Mass on Friday, May 20 at 4 PM. It was Jim's wish that any memorial contributions please be made in his memory to Hospice of the Valley or The Casa.

I remember meeting Jim at the Oasis Gift Shows back in the early 90's and then he came to the Casa to volunteer. I remember him saying that he found the place he wanted to be. Everyone at the Casa knew Jim Dixon. He liked to help and all you had to do was ask and he did what he could. Rest in peace. It was good working with you. You will be missed.

Jim was so helpful at our Franciscan Renewal Blessing of the Animals and Pet Adopt-a-thon events. He was so dedicated to the animals and wanted them all adopted. He will be truly missed yet always in our hearts.

Jim~ Words can never express what you meant to the Casa community and to me personally as the GM. Your insight, planning, humor, computer skills, love of the friars and less fortunate. You are a good and kind spirit and one that will be tremendously missed. Charlie

Jody, although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. You and your family are in my prayers.
