Michael Gennaula Obituary

Gennaula, Michael Charles ("Mikey")
died peacefully at home, on his birthday Friday, May 13, 2011. At 43 years, Mikey's life would seem too short to many. But those who were touched by his humor and inspired by his attitude understand that he believed the quality of existence far exceeded the quantity of time he lived. Though his body was paralyzed for 23 years his heart was alive with love and caring for everyone in his world. Many are remembered after death for their occupations or community contributions etc. Mickey will be forever remembered for how he lived his life. He inspired people to appreciate each moment and to garnish that moment with a smile. Mike is a graduate of Shadow Mountain High School, Scottsdale Community College and he worked for 19 years at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Gainey Ranch. He is survived by his mother, Mary Johnson, father Charles Gennaula & wife Lana Gennaula, sister Kim Gennaula Hagi, brother-in-law, Guy Hagi, nephew, Luke Hagi and niece, Alia Hagi. He is also survived by his beloved and closest friends Johannes Wolf, Marie Mulvena and his dog "Cita". All family and friends will forever remember Mikey as a man who lived life with dignity, pride and happiness. Visitation will be held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8855 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255, on Tuesday, May 17th from 6-9 PM. Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 18 at Messinger Pinnacle Peak

My sympathies are with you Mary, Kim and Chuck. I am sad that Mike and I fell out of touch with one another over the years. He was a great friend and was always the go to guy for fun and mischief. Those of us who had the privilege of befriending him have a hole in our hearts that will never be filled in his absence.

I will always remember the kind and gentle, adventurous little boy with coal black hair who took me climbing in the small mountains behind his house. Taught me Back Gammon. As quick as lightening and going a hundred miles and hour, always smiling. You couldn't look at him and not smile back. I was lucky to have known him. I'll be praying for you Mary, Kimmy and Chuck. Todd

My thoughts go out to Mikey's family and friends. I feel lucky to have worked with Mikey through the last year as he always brought a smile to my day with his jokes, songs and through the love of his Steelers. Mikey will always be remembered.
