Erva Verner Obituary

Verner, Erva J.
94, of Mesa passed away on May 10, 2011. She was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Charles and Blanche Strand. She graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin in 1939 with a BA in philosophy and journalism and from Arizona State Univ. in 1960 with an MA in education and again in 1971 with an Education Specialist degree. She was preceded in death in 1984 by her beloved husband Jack, whom she married in 1940. She is survived by sons Jim, David and Don, daughter Jackie Rundio, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Erva spent many years as an educator. She taught elementary school in Scottsdale, Phoenix and at the Campus Laboratory School at ASU in Tempe. She was an assistant professor and lecturer at the ASU college of Education from 1966-1972. She served 10 years as Coordinator of Title I and Migrant Education in Nampa, Idaho schools, where she retired in 1982. She will be missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 21 at Scottsdale First Church of the Nazarene. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to KidZ at Heart International.

Erva was a wonderful woman who impacted many children's lives. Ruth Downey Mellert and I are honored to have known her. Our prayers are with the family at this time.

Great memories of a lovely lady. It was truly our privilege to know her. Each visit was always special and full of joy. We will miss you very much but know you are rejoicing with the Lord and those who have gone before. Love and prayers for those left behind.
