Bob Haarde
June 10, 2011
Harry Haarde was my uncle and I loved him very much. Harry is the last of his generation of Haardes. There were six of them. Three cousins on one side, Dot, Bob and Harry and three cousins on the other side, Fred, Richard and Bud. All six were great Americans, great people and all lived long and exemplary lives. Harry's obituary appropriately describes what a special person he was - always positive, always sincere, always friendly. One funny memory I have that keeps coming back to me lately is from one of our last family reunions in Cape Cod in the early 90's. We drove up in separate cars and when we all arrived at our cottage we sat around, looked out at the ocean and prepared to cook up some lobsters. My dad and Harry proceeded to get into one of their "discussions" about how to get to Cape Cod. Bourne Bridge? or Sagamore Bridge? It went on and on. To everyone else these two brothers appeared to be arguing, but this was their way of communicating to each other and they loved it. It could not have been a more ridiculous topic - how to get to cape cod. Who cares? But to them it was worthy of a good long Bob and Harry argument. I remember this discussion about "how to get to cape cod" now because I am sure today my dad and my uncle Harry are up there sitting around with loved ones having a good long argument about how to get to Heaven.

My Father never meet a man he didn't like and found something good in everyone. We all will miss him.
