Jean Ekblaw Obituary

Ekblaw, Jean C.
91, of Scottsdale, passed away May 31, 2011. Born December 13, 1919 in Beloit, WI to Chester and Grace Christensen. She received her undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College in 1942 and her Masters degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin in 1943. Jean was a counselor for the Lutheran Council of Churches during WWII, then Dean of Women at Mills College and counselor and Dean of Students at Kansas City University, the University of Minnesota and University of Missouri at Kansas City. She married Dr. Sidney E. Ekblaw in 1952 and lived in Kansas City until retiring to Arizona with her husband in 1970 where she has been a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She will be greatly missed by her children; Karen (Michael) Miller, Kroy (Laura Paty) Ekblaw, Karla Ekblaw, Linda Bruner and Keith Ekblaw; four grandchildren, Kristen Williams, Kristofer Miller, Kroy Miller, and Daniel Ekblaw; three great grandchildren, Vincent Ekblaw, Sydney and Londyn Williams. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Sidney and a grandson Benjamin Ekblaw. A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 10th at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4300 N. 82nd Street, Scottsdale, with a luncheon immediately following in Zoellner Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ekblaw Educational Fund at Bethany Lutheran Church or to St. Olaf College, 1520 Saint Olaf Avenue, Northfield, MN 55057-9984.
