Ruth Elizabeth Wurts Burt

Burt, Ruth Elizabeth Wurts
94, of Tempe, AZ passed away peacefully on May 24, 2011. She was born and raised in New Jersey, and lived there with her late husband, Clifton H. Burt, until they permanently moved to Tempe in 1997. They had wintered in Arizona for many years before moving to Tempe permanently. Ruth was valedictorian of her class at East Orange High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College with a BA in Mathematics. She worked as a statistician with Colgate-Palmolive for several years before marrying in 1941. Later, Ruth taught mathematics at Maplewood Junior High School and was an educator there for twenty years. After Ruth's retirement she and Clif travelled extensively, including adventurous car trips to Alaska and throughout Europe. She was active in various church and volunteer organizations, and especially enjoyed hiking and photographing Arizona scenery. Ruth is survived by her sons; Donald, David, and William and grandchildren; Jenny Ruth, Clifton, Stephen, Geoffey. A Memorial Service will be held at the University Presbyterian Church in Tempe, AZ on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, beginning at 11:00am. Arrangements are being held under the direction of Carr Tenney Mortuary in Tempe, AZ.
