Geraldine Curtis Obituary

Curtis, Geraldine G.
Of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully among her family and friends at the age of 82 on June 9, 2011. Gerry was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. A devoted Catholic of strong faith, Gerry had a special relationship with the Blessed Mother. Everyone who met her loved her, and she was fiercely loyal to and protective of her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Edmund L.; her son Michael L. (wife Rhodora); daughter Lori A. Han (husband Liang); six grandchildren, Luke, Chelsea, Jonah, Jade, Serviah and Tiffany; and brothers Louis P. Ferrara and Russell M. Ferrara (wife Lin). She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Josephine Ferrara. Gerry was the oldest of three children, was raised in Rochester, NY, and attended Nazareth Academy. While in school, her teacher Sister Maureen encouraged her to begin corresponding to a young Catholic Marine preparing to ship out to Korea. They fell in love and were married in 1953. After short stays in Florida, North Carolina and California, they transferred to Arizona in 1963. Gerry will be greatly missed by all her friends. Her involvement in the OLPH Sodality, Bel Canto Choir and her service as co-founder of the Leisure Hours Club and treasurer and board member of the Scottsdale Symphony allowed her to touch many lives. A visitation and prayer service will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Rosary at Messinger's Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd in Scottsdale. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, followed by a reception at Messinger's. A private burial ceremony
will be held at St. Francis Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Nazareth Academy, 1001 Lake Avenue, Rochester, NY, 14613.

Mike,
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Please know that you and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers. If it had not coincided with our own family tragedy we would have been at her service. I'm sorry I never had the pleasure of meeting your mom but I have heard the stories of Scott, Ray and you growing up and know she must have been a wonderful lady to have raise a son such as you! I know how hard the loss of ones mother hits. We pray you have enough memories to last a lifetime and that God will comfort you and ease your sorrow.

Love,
Ray, Lynda,
Nate & Tasha

As part of the OLPH / Bel Canto families, Gerry always added to the warm current of love that flowed in that community. She was wonderful, sweet, and had a great sense of humor. Our loss is Heaven's gain. My condolences and prayers are extended to Ed and the family during this time. Peace and Blessings.

Dear Ed, Michael, Lori and all of Gerry's family: Our love and prayers are with all of you. Even though we did not see Gerry and Ed as often as we wanted to, they remained our best friends always. Gerry was a beautiful, and honorable person, and we will miss her - but we will never forget her. All of our love, and peace to Gerry's family.
