Alan Messinger Obituary

Messinger, Dr. Alan Jack ("Jack")
Passed away on June 5, 2011. His life was defined by his dedication to his family and his patients. Born April 3, 1932, he graduated from the State Univ. of N.Y., and was a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Services, serving as Chief Resident at Walter Reed Hospital. He was an everpresent fixture at Good Samaritan Hospital, where he delivered countless babies over nearly four decades of selfless service. Jack loved candy, politics, fancy cars, and Judge Judy. Most of all he loved his family, wife Joan, children Howard, Lisa, and Alana, and grandchildren Adam, Andrew, Elijah, Kendall, Roman, and Aria. He will be remembered as a smart, humorous, impeccably coiffed, generous man with a beautiful smile, and is already sorely missed. A private family gathering will be held to honor his life.

Dr Messenger took great care of me throughout my teen years. He followed that by taking care of me during my high risk pregnancies. He always took time to make sure I was comfortable during these very difficult times and then he safety brought my two children into this world. He was not only brilliant, but compassionate, giving and very kind. He will always be a treasure in our family.

I am so sad to hear of Dr. Messinger's passing. I called him AJ, he was my Dr. for over 20 years! My husband and I were forever grateful to him, he helped us to concieve our three handsome and wonderful sons. I was told that I would never concieve! When I finally got pregnant he cried along with me. He was a fantastic and brilliant Dr., he will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. I lost the three most important men in my life within six years, my husband to cancer, my father to Alzheimer's and Dr. Messinger to retirement. Peace and Sympathy to all of his family.

Dr. Messinger delivered my daughter at GoodSam in Feb,1979. He was so amazingly funny and down to earth. I swore at him in the delivery room and threatened to "walk out" to which he offered to go to the nurse's station and call me a cab. ROFL. He was my OB/GYN for many, many years and I loved him. RIP Doctor Messinger.
