Edward T. Reeder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
When Pat Potter recalls her great-nephew, she can''t help but remember the pet raccoon he had when he was 10 and a messy day the animal and its owner had years ago. "The raccoon chased the cat down the chimney, and they had soot all over his house, and he had to clean up all the soot," Potter said of Edward Reeder. "My favorite memory is of him and his raccoon." Reeder, 32, of Camp Verde, Ariz., died Aug. 21 when his Humvee hit a tank and flipped over. He was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. After he graduated from high school in 1990, Reeder joined the Marines. He taught other soldiers how to shoot weapons and he also worked as a supply officer. His career led to service in Bosnia, Liberia, Somalia and in the Persian Gulf. "I think he decided that was what he wanted to do," Potter said. "His father was a cowboy, and maybe the military was a way out of ranch life." He had two children with his wife, Christine Reeder _ 10-month-old Jarrett and 4-year-old Sarah Ruth. "He couldn''t have died doing a better thing," his wife said.

I will always remember the wonderful moments we shared my friend. The drive from NC to CA. The speeding tickets we avoided by letting you do all of the talking.

Love and miss you Pete.

I served with Ed in Lima Battery 1991-94. I never would have made it through section chief school without his help. Good man, good Marine. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Pete was a hell of a Marine. I served with him in lima battery 3/10. You are missed

I served with Ed when he was a Sergeant (L 3/10). Great man and always loved to help his Marines out. He also inspired me to get into the E.M.S. field. That all helped me to become a Correctional Officer.

To his Family and friends please know to this day he still has an impact all over. It made me a better Man and Marine to know him.

My name is Sharon. I am old enough to be your mother. I am so very sorry you lost your life so young. When I read your obit it grabbed my heart, and I had to write. I will always love and respect our soldiers like you. What a fine young man you must have been. I know your family stands tall and proud because you were theirs. God bless you and may God keep your family safe until you see them again.

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Gunnery Sgt Reeder. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Gunnery Sgt Reeder knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Gunnery Sgt Reeder!

In Memory of Edward ~ (Debra Estep)

August 21, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Edward, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I met Pete in 1991 when he was home from leave and he became my best friend. Pete used to be so homesick that I had to write to him every day and he would write long letters home, which I still have. Pete loved to recieve care packages, his favorite contained m&m cookies, certs, and glow in the dark toothbrushes. Pete was the best friend anyone could ask for. I lost touch with Pete shortly before he got married but I never went a day without adding him to my prayers. Pete used to love to mop my mom's floors when he was home on leave and sit and play the banjo. I will always hold a very special place in my heart for Pete, he died doing what he believed in. God bless you, pete and may the lord protect your family. Joanna Hansen

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I served with Gunny Reeder in 1990 while in boot camp. Platoon 3065 Even then he was a remarkable Marine. I remember he was the company's top shooter. This Marine could not miss the the bulls eye!!!

I e-mailed him in 2000 to say hello and to praise him on his success in the Corp. Today I looked him up to say hello and found this site. I will miss this Great Marine. You and your family will remain in my prays.

My deepest condolences to the family of Gunnery Sgt. Reeder. Im a Navy Corpsman with 2nd Battalion 1st Marines. I was there the night his humvee was in the accident. I remember all of his junior marines asking me if he was okay, while we were patching them up from very serious injurys. He must have been a great marine and leader, most of all a friend for those young men wanting to know how there gunny was doing. Ill never forget that night. And well always carry his memory on in my heart. OOORRAAAA Semper!
