Dallas Moore Obituary

Dallas Moore March 3, 1940 - April 7, 2007 Dallas Moore, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, peacefully passed away April 7, 2007, with loving family at his side. Dallas Biddle Moore was born March 3, 1940, in Paris, Kentucky, to Lee and Lillie Mae Moore. Shortly after Dallas was born, the family moved to Salinas, California and eventually settled in Bakersfield. As a young man, he traveled to West Africa for a year of mission work, building roads and bridges. He went on to attend Bethany Bible College and was then drafted into the Army, where he proudly served as a military police officer. He would eventually go on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees, but not before meeting the love of his life. It was a blind date that introduced Dallas to his future wife, Gloria Hall. They married in 1967 and had two daughters, Julie and Ginger. In 1974, Dallas and Gloria moved their young family to Ventura so he could accept a teaching position at Ventura High School. For 28 years he shared with thousands of students the joys of woodworking, auto mechanics, and machine shop. Through teaching, he developed many long and treasured friendships with colleagues and students, who would stop by the shop or even the house for a chat and some technical advice. Dallas's life was all about relationships. His many interests and involvements brought him dear friendships of an everlasting kind. First and foremost was his lifelong relationship with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He shared his faith with everyone he met, and his joy in the Lord was evident in his every action. For many years, he was a faithful member of First Assembly of God and Ventura Missionary Church, where he especially enjoyed his men's Bible study and prayer groups. Spending time with family was Dal's priority. He always made time for his wife, his girls, his sons-in-law, and especially his beloved grandchildren. He was a hands-on Grandpa, freely giving of hand-truck rides, chocolate milk and bear hugs. Restoring military jeeps and maintaining his Chevys was Dal's primary pastime. Of course, much of the time was spent chatting with his buddies. He spent a lot of time in recent years at the Flying A Ranch putting his jeeps to work and sharing his love of the outdoors with his grandson, Jacob. Dallas is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Ernie Blevins of Ventura, and Ginger and Richard Maxwell of Oak View; grandchildren, Jacob Blevins, Bryson Blevins, Nina Maxwell, and baby Maxwell (due in July). He also leaves his brother, Leroy Moore and wife, JoAnn; sister, Maryann Graham and husband, Joseph, all of Bakersfield; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who stood by their side through times both difficult and joyful. Special thanks to Dr. Theodore Hole, whose trusted wisdom and compassionate perspective always came at just the right time. Also immensely appreciated are the Ventura County Hematology-Oncology Specialists, Dr. Matzner, and the many other nurses and doctors at Community Memorial Hospital for their kind care and support of Dallas. A private burial will be held at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park. A celebration of Dallas's life will follow on Wednesday, April 11th, at 1:00 p.m., at Ventura Missionary Church, 500 High Point Drive, in Ventura. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lifewater Int'l (www.lifewater.org), P.O. Box 3131, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Ted Mayr Funeral Home

Dear Gloria and family,

We just heard about Dallas' passing. I am so sorry for your heartache. He was a real hero, especially in Youth With A Mission (YWAM). He and his friend Larry Hendricks were the first "YWAMers." In 1961, they paved the way for hundreds of thousands of young missionaries to follow. Back then no one had heard of short-term missions. Dallas dared to do something new. Plus he and Larry built the road through the jungle to an isolated leper colony. I'm sure that and other projects they did during their year in Liberia made the way easier for thousands of afflicted poor people over the years.

I've barely touched on Dallas' legacy. I'm sure he received a hero's welcome in heaven. You have our love and prayers.

Mr. Moore,
I am a past student of Mr. Moore's Auto Shop class. I had the privilege of learning from Mr. Moore for four consecutive years. He not only taught me about cars and trucks but about what it means to be a good human being. He taught me about life and how to be a man. Because of Mr. Moore, I decided to venture into teaching and attempt to become the role model he was to me. I am so sorry that this great man is now gone and I express my condoldences to all family members. Mr. Moore will live on in all of his past student's lives. Thank you Mr. Moore.

I had the pleasure of working with Dallas for 16 years at Ventura High. He was a prince of a man....kind, caring, positive, and a true gentleman. I can honestly say that Dallas is one of the few people that I've known that never uttered a negative word about anyone. A fine teacher and an even better person. God bless him and the entire Moore family.

Gloria, and family, Here we will miss Dallas tremendously. I can only imagine that he's singing, whistling and dancing in heaven now. May God's peace fill the void he will leave in your everyday lives. And know that the legacy he leaves will live on in our hearts forever.

Dallas truly was an extrordinary individual who exuded the love of Jesus. Even though Jeanne and I have been away from Ventura for many years we still considered Dallas, and you Gloria, our dear friends.

We have truly lost one of those exceptional people who rarely we come across in life. Dallas brought me closer to the Lord more than any other person I've ever met. He will always be remembered as a loving and giving person.

My very first class at Ventura High School was Autoshop with Dallas. The following year I was fortunate to be his teachers assistant. I owe a great deal to Dallas for my automotive knowledge and attention to detail. I am now teaching in the very same room that Dallas taught in. He led by example and I am a better person because of knowing Dallas. His faith should be an inspiration to all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My sister in Bakersfield called me to tell me about Dallas. My family knew Dallas in the old Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Bakersfield, many, many years ago. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. He held a special place in my mom's (Elynore Bradrick) heart. They have probably already greeted each other in Heaven. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
