Harold M. Melle

Harold M. Melle 1918-2008 LANESBORO Harold M. Melle, 90, formerly of Baker St, and Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility for the past two years , died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born March 19, 1918 in Pittsfield, son of Thomas E. and Lucy A. Peaslee Melle, he was a 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Melle served in the Army with the 85th Infantry Division from September 1943 until November 1945. He saw service in both Italy and Africa and received a bronze star. Prior to his service in the Army he managed Little Frank's Store on North St. in Pittsfield, he worked at Bond Bread, and retired in 1977 from Wonder Bread as the garage foreman. Mr. Melle was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield, where he was a member of the Deaconate, the board of trustees, and the historical committee. He was a past master of the Crescent/Pittsfield Masonic Lodge, a member of the York Rite Bodie and the Scottish Rite. He was also a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Collina No. 69. He enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, and was a member of the Senior Citizens of Lanesboro. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mildred I. Jones, whom he married June 9, 1940 . She died November 22, 1996. He leaves two daughters, Linda Poulton of Pittsfield and, Louise Charron of Lanesboro; two grandchildren, two great- grandchildren; a brother, Edward Melle, of Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leo Melle and Thomas Melle; and a grandson, Paul Charron. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Harold M. Melle will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Rennie pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in care of the funeral home 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
